If she was decent, it would be fine. As pointed out earlier, she's not.

Well neither is JM. Neither WAS Mike Neville.

I don't think she is bad on what I have seen so far. The fact that you have now decided just to go down the 'she isn't decent' route does you little credit. It just reinforces the point that the main problem is that viewers have closed minds to change in our region - no wonder we are considered backwards by other parts of the country. Sad

I didn't start on the silly idea that she had to work her way up, I'm not exactly sure where that came from.

What I said was Kim Inglis - having asked a number of people of varying ages - suggest that they like her better. There are mixed reviews on the new presenter.

She may improve, but at the moment she isn't as good. I think it was you that brought the ranks thing into it, but I certainly didn't suggest that she must work her way up through TTTV, all I am saying is there are better people there than her.

Mike.. I think anyone who fails to see his appeal needs to check some of his clips and tapes. There are not many newsreaders who can do all that very serious news, yet also have the personal touch. I don't think his style was 1970s at all, it was friendly, and if news reading today has to be "modern" and by "modern" it has to be presented by pretty blondes who are wooden then I'll not bother watching.

Johnathan.. Can't see what people want from him, he smiles, he is able to laugh at the right parts, is serious in the right parts. Everything Fiona Phillips isn't. Which is handy. Boring? Well its news, he's not there to juggle eggs.

Its not like I've changed my mind, I said Kim was better and the new one isn't very good. Central TV might find her great, I don't. Then again, I don't think Pam is that great anymore, she's not really been suited to co-presenting, apart from with Paul Frost.

Pam is better on things like North East Today, where she can present on her own and not have to 'try' to be pally with the co-pre.

I am not sure its about change, but I think people always take to people more if they've worked for the station for a while first and "worked up" to main presenter.

Ian Payne certainly has done that spending over ten years doing the sports reports. Most of them who are big names on the station have done that, just like Pam - who started off doing the weather forcasts.

Sorry GNE but you do seem to advocate that people need to work their way up the ladder!

No, I suggested that people generally are more accepted straight away (in a major presenting role), by viewers if they "know" the people for a while first.

And I suppose it also helps the bosses to gage whether the person is popular or not with the viewers. The Jake Lynch issue earlier showed how just plonking someone new into a big role straight away can back-fire.

It didn't help that he was also dire. If she had been better than the established staff at TTTV then I think people would be actually saying, "what a great find."

That simply isn't the case, well not to me and a few others it isn't. Time will tell.

One thing I would say is that Tyne Tees should get a new media company working for them.

Not content with posting the Tyne Tees south billboards in the Tyne Tees north patch, many of the ones I have seen around Gateshead have been flapping around. They musn't have used strong enough paste or sumthin.

Saw one Tyne Tees south poster on the A184 being replaced by a north poster and it was hanging off 24 hours later!!!

Yep that's the one I was talking about Tesandco. The Pam & Ian poster was replaced by a Phillipa & Jonathan one, but its coming away just like the one pictured.

If I was at Tyne Tees and had spent good money on this campaign, I would be well p!ssed off.
