Have to agree with you there. I know BBC Look North have a bigger studio to BBC South, but down south they have their set lit much nicer.

A real coup for North East Tonight just now, as they were able to break the news live on the new development regarding the future of Darlington FC in Kenny Toal's two-way.

I'm not sure the lighting per sé isn't to blame here - the lighting of the presenter looks fine, the issue is more with the way they've adjusted the appearance of the backdrop to make it look like it's night time - I can only assume they've dimmed it. The regional sets are not comprised of Barco back projection screens like the national set is; they incorporate one or two projectors, but use lit artwork for the rest. Really if they want to make the backdrop look different on the Ten, they need to have different artwork behind the presenter, which probably isn't going to happen. They are I think the only region to try and make their artwork look different for the Ten, unless anyone knows different!

Interesting over at TT&B that after Lucy West leaving to Head to ITV Granada, Philippa Tomson in recent days on twitter released details she is leaving ITV Tyne Tees and Border in April, and she is off to Sky News . I imagine that means Pip is going back to newsreading, have to wait and see.

With the sad news of David Rathbane too today, will be interesting how the programme(s) work tonight. full 30 min devotion? or 10 mins start and end with opts in the middle.

So that's two weather presenters down... and the deputy news presenter. About time Kerrie Gosney was given a permanent position at the Gateshead base?

The split between NET/Lookaround lasted over 20 minutes this evening - on Tyne Tees, a substantial chunk of this time was dedicated to PC Rathband's death, as well as a DSO launch report and a few sports stories with Simon in the studio.

As Pip prepares to leave, it may coincide with a more full-time return for Alex Watson - has she returned from her last period of maternity leave yet?

I understand that Alex Watson is now a producer with TT&B. This is according to Wikipedia. I would imagine Kerrie Gosney may get a more full-time role or Helen Pearson possible. If Kerrie does go full-time at TTB Helen may become the weekend TTB & Yorkshire weekend weather.

On the other subject, Glad to see they did this it's good news. I would like to see them do a whole split programme with stories like Roal Moat/Derrick Bird, as much as I was interested (if that's word) the Derrick Bird story for a full programme was irrelevant to Tyne Tees viewers. A 5 min report may have been nice!

Problem is with cases like Derick Bird and Raoul Moat, a lot of the main team (from tyne tees and border) pool together for these stories. I think Derick Bird day broke throughout that day and was important to Tyne Tees viewers I think in some aspects.

I think similarly same for Raoul Moat day. Rothbury is near the eastern cross over between Border / Tyne Tees. Rothbury is about 45 mins / 1 hour away from me in the Southern Borders so was closer geographically (and relevant) than maybe the Derick Bird case.

The opts for the Border and Tyne Tees regions were 8-minutes tonight although in the middle of the programme; PC Rathband was included in the extended/split pan-regional at the beginning, then rejoining for the final ten minutes of the prog with lighter stories as usual.
