No sure if this belongs in the Newsroom, but it is a BBC News commission.

BBC News has commissioned 5 episodes of a topical QI-style news programme to be broadcast on Friday's after Newsnight. It'll be produced by John Lloyd and will be presented by four of the QI elves.

This is fantastic news, if you haven't listened to their podcast or seen a live show I can recommend it so, so much.

Considering this is a BBC News commission, I won't be surprised if this show joins the back half hour filler at the weekends on the NC.

Just been watching the first episode of this which went out last night. They've made no attempt to disguise the fact that this is a radio recording at a club, with some cameras stuck in the room. There are some camera shots that also have more orange-y skin tones than others which is a bit distracting.

Might as well just be on Radio 4.

Yes - very much 'radio on the TV' territory. Not the world's best lighting, and the cameras don't look like they have been well set-up or racked. (Some quite 'hot' shots)

It's also very 'static' coverage (looks like a lot of locked off cameras and some that are re-framed off-shot), and feels pretty edited - as though it has been ISOed and cut in an edit rather than cut as-live.

I hadn't realised it was commissioned by News rather than Entertainment or Comedy. The production values are closer to a news budget - so that might explain the 'low fi' feel.

Not sure I'd chose to watch it again - far rather listen to it as a podcast.

It looks like it's been shot on a bunch of static Go Pros and a couple of operated PSC style cameras all recording independently and stitched together in the edit. Which is how many video podcasts are done, and would explain the lack of racking.

Don't get me wrong, it's very good quality for something like a video podcast, I just think I expected something more than that of a show going out on BBC Two.

It also just feels very cramped. I'm sure you could film it in a comedy club like they have, But they've tried to lay it out like a HIGNFY style panel show, and it just doesn't work on camera in that space. I think the layout needs to be more casual, and dare i say it not so bright. Late night comedy club TV show should be a little smokier, more late night colours like blue.

It's a shame they didn't add more pictures and clips of the stories they were talking about, that would have improved things.

I've been to that comedy club for a radio recording before and there was plenty of space for that, they've made it look really cramped with the tables, they would have been better on stools with lapel mics, with a screen behind them for the logo and some clips and pics so the audience could see them.

Great to see BBC2 experimenting with the post Newsnight slot but this is pretty pointless. It's literally just a podcast on TV.
