Thank goodness - we might get a decent presenter on London news! She always looks and sounds tired. Her delivery is flat, her questioning hardly vicious and her presence and stature decidedly flimsy. She's a lightweight, who can't talk properly, often making mistakes (both getting tongue twisted and using the wrong words) and generally making a mess of what she's doing.
Maybe the team at ITV will spice her up a bit - no doubt working at BBC London is a nightmare - 'and by the way, sorry for that drumming sound in the background - that's the rain on the roof!' - because it's hardly a very professional operation! But then again, neither is ITV

Interesting article I am very suprised that Katie or Andrea didn't jump at the offer, though apparently Andrea is happy doing the Weekend News, whilst Katie is 'contracted to London Tonight', though I would have thought she jumped at the chance as she did miss out to Mary. Though I think it is odd to get Nina Hossain, I have seen her present BBC London News before but I'd never guess she'd be ITV material.
I would even have thought that they would have promoted some of the women on the News Channel such as Lucy Alexander or Leyla Daybelge for instance.

I always thought Nina was a great newsreader, i found her delivery very professional and easy to understand. She deserves this promotion. Good luck to her.

Actually, it makes a change for a new face to be bought in.
I wonder if the "lead" newsreader role will still alternate on the Evening News, or whether Mark will now be the main newsreader (fronting the main story) regularly, with Nina doing the "secondary" role, which includes the mid programme report.

Did he report from Iraq? I thought he presented from Kuwait for much of the time, based in the Coalition media centre (which did eventually relocate to a safe-ish bit of Southern Iraq later in the conflict), tied to an autocue (or possibly paper scripts) fed from a computer in London...
To me the whole "co-present from the Middle East" issue was pure theatre - even down to the comedy (and beautifully lit) tank in the background for some of the shots.
Sure it was a nice bit of "telly" - but unless I missed something Mark was doing pretty much exactly the same as if he had been in London - reading links into other people's reports... I certainly don't think he gave us any more information than the BBCs presentation team in London - and I can't recall seeing many packages from him.
(Though I suspect if he HAD been free to report rather than present they would have been excellent - I'm not attacking his journalism credentials for one minute - though I'm still not sure he should have presented Survivor or whatever it was called!)

Mark Austin is an asset to the Evening News, although I'll admit he is far better when hosting on location.
He really estabhlished both himself and the Evening News with his nightly reports from Iraq during the war last year.
