I was just wondering what you make of Nick Robinson's style of reporting? In particular when he's asked questions in the live two-way, barely has the studio presenter finished the question when he goes straight into a very well rehearsed polished answer that sounds very scripted.

It's something that always stands out to me as being quite different from other reporters. I'm interested in how other people perceive this.

It's very weird you ask this question, I was just about to post the same question. Personally, his reporting style is still rather tabloidy and conservative. It's not very spontaneous and he comes across as having rehearsed all day and having waited all day for his two minutes of polish.

Well, this is odd, because I felt compelled to comment on his style as well. I've always found him to be a tiresome reel of banal clichés and godawful puns, and the Budget has just amplified this to a whole day of banal clichés and godawful puns.

Well this is incredible since I was going to post about him as well. Most two-ways are planned or at very least structured in terms of start and end points. I think his style is just to refrain from hiding this and go with communicating his stuff in an "entertaining" way. I don't think he's the best reporter certainly, but at least it makes for an interesting two way. The presenter usually puts in a short giggle at the end of his report which unfailing ends on a weak punchline of some kind. "Nick Robinson, BBC News, baddum tish".

I like his style of reporting. Perhaps it is rehearsed and well-polished, but that is a testament to his skill as a journalist. Remember his is writing his reports throughout the day and oftem does the two-ways with the studio presenter on more than one ocassion - so he's bound to have got it well-polished by his appearance on the 10.

It always strikes me as bizarre that compared to Andrew Marr or Adam Boulton he just does not seem to have that 'authority'.

Talking of entertaining political reporters, Sky's Peter Spencer is hilarious! He manages to get the facts of the report across but always does in such a witty way!

Although I will never look at Peter Spencer in the same way again since that appearance on Britain's Campest Men.

I'd forgotten about that. Wasn't everything in his house pink or something?

Journalists I've met have always prepared their answers - his style is good but I think he needs some hair seeds.

Of course being bald is deterimental to his his being a journalist... however every political journo should be b o ld though Wink I'll get my coat Embarassed ...

To be fair to political reporters it must difficult to get the balance between reporting politics in an interesting but informative way, while avoiding dumb-down or being too frivilous. On that score I don't think Nick Robinson does too badly.

Nick Robinson always seems second best to James Landale, in both style and the information given.

I like him...

I think he's forthright and comes across as polished yes... But a polished that ensures that one feels entirely confident with what he's saying. His opinions are informed and yet not entirely run of the mill....

and he has his own blog too - written in very much his own style - you can imagine him reading every word Very Happy

His Blog just in case you fancy a look....
