Seriously for a second. ITV really do seem to be it at the minute. When Sir Trev leaves they'll be very few "noticable" faces left. IMO.

You could say the same when Michael Buerk and Peter Sissons left BBC News. Sophie Raworth who? Bill Turnbull? yet they are well known now.

It's only because most people on here are obsessed with BBC News 24 which makes them think BBC News has more 'faces' than ITV News, hence why people keep suggesting these fantasy presenter schedules involving minor News 24 presenters hosting the 6.

Good call. As long as whoever takes over gets good stories and presents the stories in an engaging way, who give a hoot who it is.

Alastair Stewart maybe. Political Editor is certainly a high enough profile, and he'd be good at it

Yeah, that's the one.

Can't say I'm shocked, he was my choice to takeover when it was revealed Marr was going. He just has an accessible style that other political commentators on the BBC don't have. He's very similar to Marr and on some occasions has been better in my opinion. A very good choice as far as I'm concerned.

The other day, Alastair made a joke that its been a long time since he was a journalist, and he cant imagine ever returning to it.

The TImes suggested earlier in the week that ITV may consider poaching Daisy Sampson - The Dialy Politics presenter. I think she may have the *accessability*, or whatever the buzz word is these days for journalists, to suit ITV News. Do like her on The Daily Politics though.

I'd agree with that. Martha Kearney and Elinor Goodman are both outstanding but they suited the more serious news programmes. Marr and Robinson have a style that suits mainstream news and I think they are the best in the business at the moment. Daisy perhaps would benefit from a high pofile move it would really give her a chance to cement her reputation. What makes the job of being a successful political commentator on BBC or ITN is your ability to engage the audience. After the wonderful John Sargeant left, we had a very bad time with Robin Oakley. The man knew his stuff but he just didn't connect to the audience that well.

When Nick Robinson was at the BBC he was just too young, as he's gotten older he's found his voice and being on ITN meant he wasn't in Marr's shadow so he could really shine. He did say though that he wasn't sure about the BBC job because they were too autious these days when it came to breaking stories. I just wonder if it will be an enjoyable return to Auntie for him?

Daisy Sampson would be an excellent choice, an outstanding journalist - knowledgeable yet relatable at the same time. She comes across as very genuine on screen and her show on LBC is excellent.

My only concern would be her going to a network like ITV - where politics is often covered a lot less than other networks in favour of more "human" stories. Of course she'd be an excellent political editor but probably criminally underused.

I think she's doing fairly well on the Daily Politics on BBC2 and then doing LBC drivetime. Of course if she moved it would be likely she'd give up her LBC job due to the full time hours of reporters and editors.

I wonder if Daisy's got itchy feet and feels she wants to move to a more prominent role and slot within the BBC and if she doesn't get it she'd go. I get the feeling that's what happened with Nina Hossein the BBC let that one slip through their fingers. Having said that though I've heard her pronounce words in weird ways!! Confused

Nick Robinson and/or John Ray seem to appear on screen almost every day, though.

A small point, but Robin Oakley replaced John Cole, not John Sergeant. John Sergeant left the BBC after, and because of, Robin Oakley's appointment.

Perhaps George Galloway should step into the role. Every time he did a good live he'd shout and demand "CONGRATULATE ME".
