My bets would be on Angus Walker or John Reay. I would have preferred the BBC job to go to someone like Martha Kierney as I cant stand Nick Robinson.
John Ray - maybe. He's certainly very good. But maybe they'd want to poach from elsewhere, as with their past two political editors (Sargent and Robinson).
So now ITV not only have no decent presenters, they don't have any decent correspondents either.
Robinson was quite irritating, but the best they had. Now there is erm... nobody.
They'll have to make a play for someone outside ITV. I'd love to see them get Julia Hartley Brewer of the Express. God knows how she ever gets any work done there, she's always on the telly.
Obviously a BBC worshipper. Try and get a sense of proportion!
Christ, you're certainly barking up the wrong tree if that's what you took from my post!
I am anything but a BBC worshipper. My life is devoted entirely to the teachings of Jesus Chr... no, seriously, I just find it comic how ITV are now up sh-t creek.
They can't find someone to present their late evening show, and now they are without a really decent, well-known political correspondent. Their recent relaunch has been a joke, and it looks a state.
They've spent the past decade closing foreign bureaux, squeezing staff numbers and resources, having their budget tightened, and sitting back and assuming that because they're on one of the most-watched channels in the UK that they'll be ok.
The News Channel is a complete waste of time - what was it they said about overtaking News 24 by around this time? That's really come to fruition, hasn't it, especially as they've withdrawn it from Freeview in most areas. Vectone World probably pulls in more viewers.
ITV have no commitment to news, and it'd probably be better for all concerned if they either:
- Give up on claiming to provide a comprehensive news source, and let the journalists there actually go and work for an organisation who are prepared to invest in news, rather than programmes about happy slapping and celebrities on islands
- Stop fannying about and pump some money into the operation.
I think we all know which one is more likely, don't we.
"We are saving, We - are saving, No re-porter-s and lot-s news to - cover, we up hit cr-eek with no mon -eeeee."
Seriously for a second. ITV really do seem to be it at the minute. When Sir Trev leaves they'll be very few "noticable" faces left. IMO.
I find Nicks move quite, well intresting. I head he left the Beeb pretty peeved he'd been ignored in the last reshuffle and then ITV stuck the goldern "editor" carrot out and he left. Quite an annyoing tet though.
There was a programme about the three political editors some time ago on BBC 1. I found his ideas on the job quite funny....
He should be good on BBC News, but obviously a serious blow to ITV News. They'll have to play their cardsright fr the rest of the year if they want to maintain or improve on their standards.
Any dates released on when Nick will leave ITN and enrol at the Beeb?

Although you may be right in saying that there could be improvements, ITV News is hardly on it's knees. Reporters come and go - who knows who they'll replace him with.
Nick Robinson is an excellent journalist with a brilliant way of explaining things - a little like Marr, but different. I think it's great news that he's returning to the BBC as Political Editor. During the election campaign, and especially during the Hutton Enquiry, Nick Robinson's political reports were the only good thing about ITV news, almost as good as Andrew Marr's reports in some cases.
It'll certainly be a blow for ITN. Maybe they'll do what they did last time and poach News 24's Chief political correspondent again, this time of course it would be James Landale.

You could say the same when Michael Buerk and Peter Sissons left BBC News. Sophie Raworth who? Bill Turnbull? yet they are well known now.
It's only because most people on here are obsessed with BBC News 24 which makes them think BBC News has more 'faces' than ITV News, hence why people keep suggesting these fantasy presenter schedules involving minor News 24 presenters hosting the 6.
I've got to admit, Im not hot on BBC News anchors...which leads me to believe its the channels that e watch hat determines whether we class anchors as well known or not.
