I would've thought the biggest surprise was not that Nick Owen is leaving ITV News, but that he's
not
going to Al Jazeera like the other "big name" losses!

maybe. but surely if they wanted to keep him he would still be there?
Er, not if he fancied a new challenge, no!
Again you may well be right. I'm personally always a tad skeptical when somebody leaves a company for a "fresh challenge" and find it hard to believe he would leave his position as a well-known face of a terrestrial bulletin for the relative obscurity of News 24.
We'll just have to agree to differ on this one!

Indeed - we'll agree to disagree! I just think that if the phrase "looking for a fresh challenge" (or similar) is always considered a euphemism for "got pushed out" then we're looking for conspiracies at every turn where, for the most part, there is none. Your posting also assumes that people in the media (especially those that have worked in it for a long time) always crave high profile exposure on a major channel. Not always so.
BTW: I'm please to say that every time I've left a company for another job, it's always been for the fresh challenge! Honest!

I imagine, though, that a couple of hours a day (if indeed he is joining the weekday lineup) on a rolling news channel with breaking news, live interviews, guests etc is more stimulating and interesting for the presenter than a 20-minute terrestrial bulletin.
Nick Owen always seemed to enjoy himself when he was on the ITVNC.

Good luck to Nicholas Owen. I am sure he will be a valuable asset for BBC News, and we will probably see him present the odd bulletin on BBC World too (one hopes), and even the Weekends on BBC1??
One does wonder if where he will slot in at News 24 - I have read much speculation on these boards about the imminent departure of Messrs Sissons / Lowe.......perhaps he (Nicholas) is for the weekend slots??
Like another of his middle-aged brethern in the past, let's hope he doesn't fall out with Kate Silverspoon.
Joking aside - good luck Nick.

Maybe he is going to get paid more on BBC News 24 than he would at ITN?
