I wonder how long it will be before Nick appears on the BBC News on BBC1
Could be an interesting anno into the six in the West Midlands region if that were to happen

Unlikely.
And for those conspiracy theorists...
...surely a look at his age tells you it's far more likely that Nick simply fancied a new challenge in the few years he has left before retirement?

I hope the Lunchtime News now returns to one presenter (Katie Derham) as the shortened version doesn't require two, with Alistair Stewart as the regular stand in.

Probably explains the lack of appearances and the recent grooming of Geraint Vincent.

national newsreaders do not tend to get a name-check in the midlands, except for the intro to the 10 o'clock news. we simply have "this is bbc one for the midlands, now the news at six o'clock followed in half an hour by midlands today with nick owen."

This is really sad as well as shocking, I always admired Nick and the way he brought us the bulletins every day.
I feel really sorry for ITN, as they are indeed losing their greatest big names.
I hope they can find someone, to take over when he goes.
Overall, I would like wish Nick all the best with the Beeb!

Blimey, that's a bit draconian isn't it? Why should someone pay because a newsreader has left? And who should it be?

so is it likely Nick will do weekend shifts or are one of the weekday male presenters planning to leave news 24 to make room for him?
JH
maybe. but surely if they wanted to keep him he would still be there?
Er, not if he fancied a new challenge, no!
