No reason at all for it to be shown across the UK. The general election was different as there was a possibility that a Northern Ireland party could have formed part of a coalition, so possibly had an impact beyond NI.

I did say that! But surely they could've found somewhere obscure for it for politics geeks elsewhere in the UK.

Does UTV news have any election graphic or there just given up? to me it just feels UTV live is just dead donkey.

Investment in new graphics kit definitely required. Name straps and all other news graphics look pretty awful on their HD channel - as do graphics featured on the channel's idents and trails. The sooner all of that gets the ITV treatment, the better.

As for Wednesday's debate - from a technical perspective: I was dipping in and out of the programme but I saw a number of examples of cameras being put to air whilst adjusting shot; and a pretty unforgivable editorial error, where they went to a commercial break, having omitted one leader's contribution to a particular debate - although they did come back to him immediately after the break.

The debate wasn't even live it was prerecorded, so if the that bad you have to wonder. Also I thought UTV studios were still SD?>

The BBC missed this from their press release but this Wednesday BBC Northern Ireland are doing a special programme from 9pm entitled Election 2016 - The Good Friday Agreement Generation. The BBC website states; 18 years after the Good Friday Agreement the first-time voters from across Northern Ireland put the politicians on the spot about the issues which matter to them, in a live election debate hosted by Stephen Nolan and Tara Mills.

Basically it is 18 years since the Good Friday Agreement which brought the power sharing executive to Northern Ireland therefore those born in 1998 will be able to vote for the first time and it aims to show what issues are important for this generation in Northern Ireland which as a young person myself I expect these to be very different to what the politicians say.

It is in the press release... will hopefully be an interesting show, and a different take on politics in NI.

Election 2016 – The Good Friday Agreement Generation: Eighteen years after the Good Friday Agreement, Stephen Nolan and Tara Mills will give first time voters from across Northern Ireland the chance to put politicians on the spot about the issues which matter to them, in a live Election 2016 debate on BBC One NI on Wednesday, 20 April at 9pm. Among those in the audience will be members of the BBC Generation 2016 initiative.

Sorry mate, I seen a different article on the BBC News NI website which didn't mention the Good Friday Agreement programme, I used that article for my first post in this thread and didn't see the official press release but agree it should be interesting and a different take on NI politics despite being fronted by Stephen Nolan

I think any kit update will be an indication of how long, or not, they plan on staying in Havelock House.
It's too big for them... and I would guess they'll want to vacate ASAP, if they can find a buyer at the right price.
Sooner the better really... would be good to see them go HD for news.

Given the BBC are looking for somewhere new in Belfast, it might make sense for BBC and UTV/ITV to co-locate at a new site.

Sunday 8th May 2016
Sunday Politics NI (BBC One NI) 11am-12.15pm
Vote NI (UTV) 12.15pm-1.15pm

At the moment this is what is confirmed but may change as the last election when UTV stayed on the air and dropped Saturday afternoon programming but BBC NI also cannot do this as they have the Irish Cup Final live on BBC One NI and Ulster Rugby live on BBC Two NI on Saturday 7th May.

BBC also have national coverage on BBC One through the night and BBC Two on Friday morning but this will concern more England, Scotland and Wales as our last election the first result didn't come to around 7pm on the Friday evening some 9 hours after ballot boxes were first opened and UTV & BBC NI were trying to fill time all afternoon.
