Newsround has never really had a memorable theme tune, surprising really when you consider the BBC's track record with them. It probably depends on what you grew up with but I still think 2002's is the best, the one before that seemed very cheesy in comparison (although 2002 probably seems cheesy today...)

Really? I grew up with the original onwards. Until the mid nineties when I stopped watching it there were some great tunes, but IMHO the best was this one:
I miss the double headed programmes, longer programmes and the long titles.
Are there only stort updates now?
I believe the edtion that's on at 4.20pm is about ten minutes long, but aside that the rest of the bulletins are updates.
I think the BBC One Newsround was around 9 minutes long usually - so that sounds like it may not have got any shorter since the move to the CBBC channel?
However the theme tunes that came after have all been completely different. Usually with a BBC theme tune it gets remixed or re-recorded instead of completely replaced, such as the BBC Golf theme and A Question of Sport, and shows like EastEnders. Even CBBC shows like Byker Grove and Blue Peter had the same basic tune remixed over a number of years. One notable exception being Grange Hill which needed a more appropriate theme tune as it began covering more mature issues.
Really? I wouldn't have been able to tell if you hadn't had pointed it out. Everytime they have a graphical refresh they change the theme. Of course with DFQ in full swing I wonder if they'll bother this year.
I've always thought it rather nice - and fairly obvious - that down the years the different Newsround themes maintained the rhythmic sound of the original 70s John Craven titles. It's rather wonderful that they brought back the closing sting in recent times too, a treat for those of us in our forties although of no significance whatsoever to the target audience.
