The whole new look is horrible, very cheap looking too. Shame they've ditched the 'nr' logo. They've essentially replaced something polished and well known for something much worse imo. And did they nick the desk from the mock breakfast /nwt set?
May I ask how you define cheap looking? Does it look like something a Blue Peter presenter put together in their spare time from a few bits of cardboard and double sided sticky tape?
Having checked out many of the costs, I can tell you that nothing is cheap in broadcasing anymore. Everything seems to start in the thousands of pounds in terms of cost. There's nothing in broadcasting that looks cheap to me anymore, because I know it isn't cheap.
I think this is a massive improvement, yes they've still got the annoying screens with lines but the new lighting, globe print and stage improve the set a lot.
The on screen graphics are simple, they work very well. The new branding works brilliantly to position the programme under the BBC News brolly (for the first time that I can remember) but by continuing to keep it different enough.
I love that they've brought back old traditions that mainstream news has long since dropped - fading up the lights on the presenter as the programme starts.
As to Newsround on the BBC News Channel, anyone remember Newsround24 back in the early days?
A Newsround for adults isn't actually a bad idea. Get John Craven back doing a weekly round up presented in a straightforward way with the kind of background to the stories that Newsround has always been very good at. I'm sure I'm not alone in finding that typical reports often assume that viewers have been following the whole story and know the background, there's probably a market for it?

I like the fact that they are moving a little towards the BBC News brand. Shows they are serious about the programme and the audience. Even kids recognise the titles and tunes from BBC News so why shy away from that? Just because they are kids makes no difference as long as the items are done in a way that kids understand. That's what the programme is all about.

Have ITV ever tried or do you think they ever will launch a children's news programme on CITV?

I don't remember them every trying. I'm not sure now that the brand is a channel only (with exemption to weekend early morning simulcasts) and filled with mainly imports that they would try it.
I have wondered if they've thought about teaming up with the 'first news' children's newspaper to produce a programme.
