When I was younger I hated watching NR, it had the most dullest stories I'd ever seen, much preferred the 'adult' news
Same here. The cue to play with some Lego was when Newsround came on - especially if it was alongside The Lowdown. Boredom central.
What was The Lowdown?
I seem to remember myself that it was a turn off as well, but can't remember why
Some rubbish documentary strand, usually about autistic kids, kids in wheelchairs... generally kids who were different in some way. I have absolutely nothing against such people but the programme was as dull as staring at a traffic cone for 3 days to a little kid.
And so true about the content of Newsround - as boring and po-faced as the day is long.
And the kids featured were always either disabled in some way, or were confident, high achieving little feckers.
No doubt an element of jealously still alive and well here...
I would make Lizo the main presenter, he's an archetypal childrens presenter.
Also I quite liked the lowdown. It was aimed at teenagers, not younger children. It is a sign of dumbing down that this kind of show isnt on anymore. I particularly remember an show about a child preacher in the deep south. there was a follow up documentary about it on everyman a couple of years ago. he was burnt out and unhappy, and his younger brother had taken it up in his place. I hope he didnt go the same way.
Anyone remember ipso facto? it had this kind of bangra theme over the closing credits. imagine CBBC showing a documentary series with a latin title today. you cant can you?
