It appears Granada News were probably there before the BBC, as their footage was filmed in the dark, it was very well put together on the 6.25pm bulletin, plus they used alot of Amatuer video footage. Plus it gave us more information than what we've had at work, even though we're in constant touch with the Fire Service and the Police.

And about the bangs, when the fire was going on in the earlier part of Saturday there were loads of bangs, most of them gone.

For Radio it appears that the last local bulletin on Merseyside was at 1pm yesterday, but GMR had more of it, and well done GMR even though Warrington isn't in it's area, though I think Radio Merseyside technically covers Cheshire.

Apparently 107.2 Wire FM did mention it earlier on in the evening during the continuity by which ever DJ was on at the time, but nothing was mentioned on the News.

Downtown Radio and Cool FM in Northern Ireland (two biggest ILRs) have a shared local news service every hour on the hour 0600-0100 Mon-Fri and 0700-0100 at weekends... which is actually a few hours more coverage than BBC Radio Ulster.

A situation such as you describe in this thread would almost certainly have resulted in a news report/police message(s) from television continuity on BBC ONE NI, BBC TWO NI and UTV.

Perhaps we know how to deal with news more effectively here.

That wouldn't surprise me.

In the dark? A bit like NWT on a whole then

Radio Clyde's bulletins are produced locally 24 hours a day (and usually live, but I have heard pre-rec'ed ones in the past). However, at off-peak hours -- after 10pm during the week, and weekend afternoons, I think -- they provide bulletins for other SRH stations around Scotland; so have a wee bit less of a Glasgow bias.
(at least, that's how it used to work)

Yes Clyde do provide news for other SRH (now E Map Scotland) stations at night and a good proportion of them are recorded I think!

BBC West Midlands local radio bulletins :

Mon to Fri - Individual stations up to 7pm. From 8pm onwards, a generic bulletin from BBC Birmingham, however the midnight bulletin is WM only, as the other stations swop to 5 Live, through to (Early) Breakfast (WM is Five Live from 1am.)

Saturday - Local bulletins from Breakfast, through to 1pm or 2pm(can't remember which!), then Sport till 6pm then a generic bulletin, until Sunday morning.

Sunday - Local bulletins until 2pm, then generic bulletins until 6pm, then thats it until Monday morning!

I think a lot of it is more good luck than management. ITV round here tend to use stringers & freelance camera operators. If an explosion is lucky enough (if thats the word) to happen where one of them live it makes the telly. The Beeb like joe public to record it on their mobile and send it in Rolling Eyes
