I thought Anna Botting went to Oxford. She took part in 'the other boat race' last year where 'celebrity" ex-student from oxbridge took part in a boat race.

Yep - think Anna did go to the "other place"

Why assume that they all went to University - it isn't a requirement to have a degree to be a newsreader or a journalist.

It is a requirement nowadays actually, hence the lovely Natasha and lovely Fiona have degrees from Oxford University. Laughing

Where did you get that idea from? There are many BBC journalists and presenters who haven't been to University. Journalism is one of the few professions where "on the job" experience - say starting straight from school in local papers or local radio - is deemed as valuable as academic qualifications.

Many journalists who do have degrees will have them in various subjects - from engineering to politics to anthropology, and will have done post-grad journalism courses at different universities / colleges to those they attended for their first degree courses.

From memory John Humphrys didn't go to Uni for example.

Jeremy Paxman went to St Catherines in Cambridge I think, Fiona and Natasha both went to Oxford (not sure which colleges)

I don't think Mark Austin went to university either. Could be wrong though.

Isn't it more likely that Moira went to Rada or similar? She started her broadcasting career as an actress AIUI - she was certainly in "The Adventure Game" playing an Argond in the early 80s.

The Aventure Game was a great show. Will always remember the bit at the end with the vortex. She actually looks pretty much the same as she did then.

No Moira on Breakfast today (Friday)! Sad I saw Gillian instead. She's OK but I prefer the legend that is Moira Stuart.
