Not everyone on the list went to University, let alone to study journalism. Some only entered journalism relatively recently after successful careers in other areas.

oooooooooooh - this subject just seems to go on and on and on...........

Firstly, the original correspondent just asked a simple question. I am sure that she / he would apppreciate an answer to the question asked, because the question is obviously of interest to him/her.

Secondly, regarding all the requirements for a presenter to have a degree or not..............(by the way, I am not having a pop at the original question, but rather stating a fact).

Imagine you're at home on a Sunday evening, and a major newsworthy event breaks, and it requires Newsflash to be made, be it a world war or the death of a Pope or whatever.....

How many of us would switch the newsflash off and refuse to listen to it if, for example, it was Moira Stuart who appeared on screen to deliver it???? (strictly an example)

How many of us would say to ourselves "I am not listening to this, no matter what it is, because Moira is presenting and she is not a proper university attended, degree qualified journalist?????"

Bolloc*s! Get a grip everyone who is on this "fantastic university degree" trip.

(Again, I apologise to the original post - this is in no way meant to belittle your very relevant question - I am sorry that I don't actually have the answer to any of your questions, but a am sure the BBC News 24 and BBC World websites may yield some answers).

James

OK, thanks for your e-mail James. I hope you were using Moira only as an example cos she's the best TV Newsreader ever (degree or no degree). Smile

No she didn't. She went to the University of Manchester (Anna Ford is now the Chancellor of the University of Manchester) to study French and German and then to City Univeristy in London (formally called City Polytechnic) to do a postgraduate course in Journalism.

City University, originally created as the Northampton Institute of Technology, became a university in 1966. Somewhat before Ms Raworth was born I would venture, so the fact that it was a poly is superflouous in this instance.

p.s. Whilst I would never normally comment on grammar/spelling the difference between 'formally' and 'formerly' has a substantive bearing on the meaning of your statement.

I thought Anna Botting went to Oxford. She took part in 'the other boat race' last year where 'celebrity" ex-student from oxbridge took part in a boat race.
