Is this thread genuine, or is someone having a laugh?

Hymagumba - agree with your comments about the BBCW desk. I prefer the monitors imbedded into the glass, and hence no need for laptops.

Perhaps they will do the same thing soon on N24, especially since Breakfast will come from the N24 newsdesk from January, and with Bill, Sian, Declan, Jane, Natasha, Dermot, Gillian, Sue, Rob and, of course, BIG MOIRA all crowded around that desk, there just won't be the space for messy laptops!!!! I am sure that N24 will shortly get a new desk, same as BBCW's, and the current N24 desk will be relegated to the Parliament Studio, where Dateline comes from............hopes.

So are they leaving the sofa driven look, in January, then having a presenter change in February?

Interesting that the Leeds variant of Look North only have computers on-set for the short bulletins, both at the old studio and in the new one.

Is the sofa area of the News 24 studio a permenant feature? or is it just for this week whilst Breakfast is coming from News 24 instead of it's normal studio?

I seems to fit quite well, and makes good use of a studio area which is rarely used normally. I can imagine that if Breakfast were to regularly present from News 24 then the sofa/seated area would work well. That type of seating is easy enough to remove, if they wanted to use it for other things during the day, but looks effective particularly against the background.

That's why the BBC's David Brennan has always that lustful face while signing off...

Eh?

Wrong - Breakfast is only coming from News 24 for the week between Xmas and New Year - NOTHING has been said about it continuing into January!

What on EARTH makes you think News 24 will get a new desk??!??

World's desk has the glass top because they could not afford laptops in the budget so used a version of the desk that allowed the existing PC's to be built in. You may think that it looks better - I personally don't - but it was purley a cost implication!

If we're speaking purely of cost implications, the cost of a huge glass insert (a al BBC World desk) must extend into thousands of pounds. A laptop must surely be equally expensive. So, where's the saving?

Also, whilst on the subject of commercial cost implications, doesn't the current Breakfast studio cost an absolute fortune to use and dismantle daily? That being the case, would it not be commercially sensible to use the current N24 Breakfast set up for Breakfast on a permanent basis? I thought that was the whole point of the probable co-habitation between N24 AND Breakfast AND the One Oclock News?

I think it would be even more cost effective, if the BBC were to decree that people should eat breakfast at 1.00 - then all three programmes could be combined.

Don't know where you get your glass from but that's ridiculous. Less than a hundred I'd have thought for a bit of glass 6' x 4'
