TV3 in Ireland used CNN copy for their Harvey Weinstein VT this evening. However while a CNN DOG was used for their own copy, a CNN Media DOG was used for their cut of Emma Thompson's interview on Newsnight.

Bit surprised the BBC don't put an 'exclusive' graphic on things like this like ITV does.

I don't think that image above needed any more graphics!

Yes, but at first sight it looks as though it's come from CNN because of them sticking their logo on top.

CNN Makes makes money off its Licensing and syndication deals. For video, audio and scripts and loads of other things.

Yes, most news broadcasters do the same though you wouldn't normally sell content obtained from another broadcaster.

I must say I'm not that bothered by on screen clutter, but even this has found me testing my limits.

I guess the 'from BBC Newsnight' caption is inherited from the original CNN obtained footage, and the boxed 'Courtesy : BBC Newsnight' has been pointlessly added by TV3?

Did the interview already air or did the BBC provide preview clips before the show to drum up viewership?

That being said I never saw a Newsource package with the CNN Media logo burnt in. Usually the only burnt in graphics would be from the broadcaster.

Yes, the courtesy strap is TV3's.

Probably just 3 News being sloppy were they pulled the video from nothing more sinister than that. They have been a CNN affiliate for decades so they probably got a little lax with things.

You know what I’m thinking 3News just downloaded the interview video directly from the CNN website. None of the CNN Newsource packages have watermarks like that and when I checked there was nothing on Emma Thompson in Newsource.

The only credits that you see on a Newsource package is a simple white text in capitals in the upper right hand side of the 4:3 safe zone.
