The BBC have appointed Paul Mason as Newsnight's new Economics Editor, on a twelve month attachment,
He replaces Stephanie Flanders, who replaced Evan Davies as Economics Editor at BBC News, following his move on a twelve month attachment to the Today programme.
Liz MacKean isn't a stranger to presenting, she used to present Breakfast News
Yep - Liz was a reasonably regular Breakfast News presenter in the late 90s era. I think she was after it left the "virtual" blue studio shared with the One, Six and Nine, but before it rebranded as "Breakfast" in 2000.
Interesting that they used the sofa (and it was the Review version of the sofa at that) for most of the programme last night right from the start...with Kirsty doing most of the news from there...only the last item was desk bound...was actually quite a nice change. Though maybe there were some problems....no closing sweeping shot, rather a quick wide shot of the desk before the end sting.
The sound in tonight's Newsnight is awful. I don't think they've managed to go to one guest where they've managed to catch the beginning of their answer/comment...Seem to be having to use the boom mike for everyone even although most guests appear to be wearing radio mics. I know it's an OB but fooking hell. Painful to watch
