So a bit like the old "The World Today" strands with several editions broadcast in slots that were prime time for contients. I assume the 12pm edition is aimed at Asia, 5am will continue as it's primetime in the US and Canada - so now I guess we need one around 4/5pm for mainland Europe and Africa?

0500 was always aimed primarily at Europe. The bulletins traditionally aimed at the US are late evening (2200, 2300 and 0000) as they're peak evening in the US. Admittedly the US spans many timezones, but even the West Coast of the US isn't really in traditional peak at 0500.

Indeed this idea does sound like a wholesale reworking of the original BBC World schedule. European Breakfast peak was served by BBC News Day (bits of which were also simulcast on BBC Prime) then The World Today aired in slots aimed at Asia, Asia Pacific and Europe (early evening peak).
