I know it's radio, but still....

Listening to Newsbeat at lunchtime, they had a section when the main presenter (male) and a correspondent (female) took turns reading people's comments. It sounded very effective with the two voices and made me think that Newsbeat would be far better with two presenters, one of each gender, presenting much like they do on News 24.

There may not be enough in the budget for two presenters, but perhaps they could ditch the 12.45 Newsbeat and just have a 30 minute one in the evening with two presenters.

(I know they used to do this in the 90s with News 90, News 91 etc)

No, it's about news - not chatter, so one person getting through the news is much better than two people chatting about it.

As they've obviously done today, they can bring in correspondents etc. for segments like that which might be better with two people.

Anyhow, switching this into a TV discussion, I've always thought it be a good idea to rebrand 60 Seconds as Newsbeat, so it could run as Newsbeat on Radio 1 during the day, on BBC3 during the night.

I wasn't really meaning the chat part, just the two voices. One could read one sentence of a headline, the other could read the next sentence. Make for a more interesting listen.

Hmmm I don't like the idea of two presenters at all, especially these days. It's all chatter and banter and to light hearted - sadly, this has caused the weakening of the once impartial world service.... read today's Indie.

Well, if you want to make it more interesting why don't they rap them instead?

I disagree - Newsbeat is a good name, and the right length. Anyhow, it's a popular and succesful brand, and it could be damaging to change it.

I think Brekkie Boy meant to rebrand 60 Seconds on BBC3 as Newsbeat .

Sorry, misread that post.

I think it would work if the style was the same, with the same presenters, and the graphics tied in with both the style and audio imaging of radio Newsbeat.
