In my opinion, Sky News have been quite critical of the way News International has treated its employees - if anything, I think they've purposely tried to raise the question of BskyB to try and raise opposition to the takeover. I wouldn't put it past them - it's been clear for a while that Sky News employees are not happy with the takeover and spin-off.

No news organisation would not be critical of the way their staff have been treated. There is solidarity between journalists, this is the sort of occasion when the profession pulls together. Last night there were staff from the Mail, Mirror and others joining the NotW staff in the pub drowning their sorrows. The difference with Sky of course is that they are connected organisationally to the Murdochs and soon could be even more so... it could be them next. Sky already has a reputation for being ruthless when it comes to staffing.

I'm not so sure that Sky News employees aren't happy with the takeover/spin of. Editorially it might have benefits, but they are left with a load of far less lucrative shares

Other guests included Mariella Frostrup, who stuck close to Brooks, PR supremo Roland Rudd, who celebrated his 50th birthday in lavish style last month, and newsreader Dermot Murnaghan. Strangely, however, the Sky News contingent seemed to be in less celebratory mood. Could that be because Sky News is about to be thrown out into the corporate jungle, without Rupert Murdoch's millions to support it? It will be interesting to see whether the loss-making Sky News can afford its own lavish summer party this time next year.

This was posted in the Sky News Presenters and Rotas thread recently, by Lost the Remote. This is what I was referring to.

I remember when News of the World was a broadsheet paper. Sometime in the 1980s it became tabloid.

If the News of the World is such a popular paper, why axe it?

Oh I don't know, because of the massive phone hacking scandal surrounding it, the withdrawal of advertisers to fund it, and the tarnished name meaning less people will buy it? Or have you been living under a rock.

D'you know what... this thread was going along so nicely until you came along. Please, don't bother to even attempt to get involved in this discussion. It doesn't concern Eurovision, channel codes or behaving like a preschool child, so it won't interest you.

168 year history and hundreds of jobs lost (mostly innocent-ish workers) all because Murdoch is protecting this vile woman, and his golden child.

Murdoch should either have BSkyB, or the Times, and keep the Sun, everything else, he should pull out of in the UK, and someone else should buy up the News of the World, and rebuild the brand.

I hardly think you can call people working for the News of the World innocent, even if you put the word mostly in front of it. Think of all the real innocent people whose lives the paper has ruined or disrupted over the years before you feel too sorry for the people who have lost their jobs. I'm sure they will all be employed elsewhere soon enough anyway, especially the big names. Who knows, maybe some of them will learn from this, get a conscience and leave the industry.

As for Brooks, Murdoch can have whoever he wishes running his company until the courts say otherwise. It is none of my business and is just a distraction from the real issues.
