First details of programming to launch on the new News UK streaming service:

Interesting choice by starting with a daily entertainment news show - not really anything similar in the UK. Gordon Smart used to appear often on the nightly newspaper reviews and was alright - unsure of how his Radio X show went though?

It appears that the individual programmes will be launched one by one, rather than the whole streaming network at the same time.

Surprisingly credible.

I note from the Press Gazette article that Sebastian Scott, previously of Planet 24 & Princess Productions, is Head Of Programming.

If he has the influence and the budget, it should look good.

I wonder if News UK TV is going for a more tabloid approach so more TMZ than Fox News.

Gordon Smart was actually pretty good on Radio X, certainly well suited to that format and that of Xfm's dieing days before it.

Have to see what format the TV show takes, but it's not a bad hire.

Interesting that News' first major public statement is concerning a non-political programme.

I do get a feeling that both GB News and News UK launches will go downhill, especially News UK. Just a feeling, as News UK is so lacklustre and doesn't seem to be competing at all with Andrew Neil's GB News, and then GB News just feels like a channel will get a few hits at launch, but will fizzle out once the hype and novelty has worn off.

2021 is not an election year in the UK or USA, so they are launching in an off year for politics, especially GB News.

Just my initial views and feeling, I wait and see, but for now, I am more concentrating on the launch of GB News, rather than the non entity News UK offering.

I think they'd be in real trouble it it was an election year.

Somebody calls an election and impartiality it very important.

They'd have to spend any purdah period, at what should be their best shot of capturing an audience, just sitting on their hands, doing straight news.

There's nothing like it but it has been tried several times before. Though that's not to say it can't be a success this time round, entertainment and celebrity is possibly a bigger draw than it was in the days of Liquid News or Channel 5's Exclusive

I remember Channel 5 used to have OK! TV which I'm guessing was just to showcase Richard Desmond's magazines more than anything

I'm sure you can get therapy for remembering that.

Is that not just a typical misleading Guardian article? There are no quotes from Corbyn to back up the story at all, the only possible relevant quote being that he is in favour of a "just, free and accountable” media. Whilst the Guardian obviously attacks Rupert Murdoch and anything he does at any opportunity, I suspect everyone can agree with that phrase, and it doesn't imply Corbyn campaigning against a particular rival of the Guardian at all.
