As I said in the ITV News thread, this could be a spectacularly tacky development in news presentation, and I firmly believe it deserves its own thread. For those who understandably can't be bothered looking, all we have to go on so far is this:

mediawhore posted:
all bulletins are coming from Studio 2. they removed the walkway over the weekend (which is why they were in Studio 1 then) and there's nothing in its place at the moment. Presenters are standing on a box so that they are at the same height as the virtual walkway.

This is all in preparation for a new virtual floor for News at Ten.

Many questions arise. If News at Ten is to have a virtual floor, then surely all the other bulletins will have to have one aswell, given that there's no longer a real one. Also, why bother taking the real one out so early when NaT's relaunch is in a month?

You'd have to hope that this will result in something classy and amazing for the return of Sir Trev, but it just sounds awful.

EDIT: seamus has pointed out to me in the ITV News thread that it might all just be bóllöcks. But that shouldn't get in the way of a good rumour-mongering session, I say!

It's a new set, not a floor...

Don't state your opinion as fact please.

I'm nearly certain that if they wanted a virtual floor, they would have moved to studio 1. ITV want a back to the basics approach, with next to no standing up. I'm certain that they wouldn't have this gimmick, and for anybody to think otherwise is just daft. So yes, I will continue to state as fact.

Why would they have moved back? Studio 2 won't remain a green box.

Whatever that totally virtual set is called.

I must say I can't quite believe their back in Studio 2. The grey rim around the newswall looks fake, its not as dark as it usually is. Maybe with them taking away the walkway they've had to remove the bottom of the newswall aswell.

I don't think studio 2's been copletely dismantled, just the walkway. I assume the curved wall remains.

Yes, that's right. As mediawhore rightly said, only the walkway has been removed and the floor painted green. The current "floor" on the ITV bulletins is completely virtual. However, I haven't heard anything specific to suggest that NAT will use a virtual floor.

I really hope this doesn't mean a nearly entirely virtual studio. I think they should go back to a more traditional set. Nothing wrong with a snazzy newswall but the floor should be real, IMO. I hope they ditch the walkway.

It would be nice if they just stuck to a nice set with perhaps a better desk and then altered the newswall background and the studio lighting depending on bulletins to give them different feels. I'm not sure what they feel they are achieving with an entirely virtual studio as people can see it is fake (not everyone, I know I didn't at first, but still...)

Could this just be a way for the floor treatment to look different for different bulletins - allowing for a diverse look between shows? It doesn't mean that the floor will suddenly become a canvas for all sorts of OTT graphics - it could just allow them to make it look wooden for one show and coloured for another?

A desk, two chairs, a couple of screens, a nice backdrop, the Bongs and the old News at Ten theme - that's all that's needed.

The rest of these gimmicks will merely serve to limit the New News at Ten's lifespan.........

News at Ten should be gimmick free IMO.
