That is my take on the ratings - enough said!

Well it's a rather strange take. Maybe NaT has done less well than ITV might have hoped, but even so the figures are respectable.

How on earth is 4.5m v 4m "beating to a pulp"? Sounds like healthy competition to me.

Al Murray performed badly on Saturday night

They obviously want to go after the Jonathan Ross/Friday Night Project type of audience, which ITV have not had a part of for years

I don't think it's doing much better on a Friday though.

I also think that the programme is far too short. It is on for a shorter period than the BBC's programme - should News at Ten run longer and then have their 10.30 show start later following the regional news?

To be fair it's been running at about the same length as the BBC this week - and it was actually longer yesterday.

Scheduling wise it's better for ITV to schedule their post-news programmes at 10.35pm and then air them a few minutes later than to schedule them at 10.40pm and seemingly give the BBC a 5-minute advantage. If viewers think a programme is starting earlier than it is, they're more likely to hang around to it apparently.

Also, length wise the BBC are going to get into trouble surely when they have to revert to the one studio for a period this year as due to Newsnight they won't really be able to extend the bulletin on days when it might be required.

I have to admit I am wrong about last night's duration. However, the other three nights I switched from News at Ten to the Ten o'Clock News and the BBC's offerings ran for a good bit longer. Last night, ITV was good though, as Julie did a great job from Heathrow.

A big story does tend to bring in the punters Wink

That makes more sense, but why name it "The Late News" and not the "Weekend News".

Surely calling it the "Late News" just emphasises it's on late!

It seems a little pointless to have Julie presenting the Late News if its going to be an ITV news bulletin rather than News at Ten. But I suppose it ties her in with ITV and makes her the face of late news ...

They should have given the Friday job to Nina to present alongside Mark.

I think they called it the Weekend News the last time News at Ten was relaunched...so I agree it should just be called that again.

However, I would have hoped News at Ten would have been on Monday to Friday when Grade and Co decided to relaunch it again.

Thanks for that Londoner - here is the article I quoted from as well.

I can see that they are reporting that Mark Austin will be at the helm rather than Julie as well.

I see no reason why it would need two presenters either - just let James Mates host as he did with the 10.30pm bulletin.

Steve Scott has just said "Join Mark Austin and Julie Etchingham'' for the Late News.

Aha - a ploy to get more folk watching to see who will present this programme Laughing

I just wish they kept things consistent and had News at Ten.
