Am I the only one who's beginning to seriously wonder whether or not this story is true... or a piece of pure newspaper speculation.

I tend to believe the insider who posted the story here (see above) and who has been right about other things.

Why is everyone getting so worked up about this? ITV News' journalistic values have gotten so tabloid and so opinionated it will matter not one fig when the late bulletin is or who is presenting it. This is a poor ratings stunt and one which will backfire in the face of the much stronger competition from BBC's Ten.

Mind you, the thought of there being no "press red" prompt which doesn't time out might sway me towards Sir Trev...

I'm afraid I can't take your comments about the journalistic standards of ITV News seriously if you are so bothered by a small icon that you would be willing to switch over!

Well pressing 'Exit' (or equivilant) on all the Freeview boxes I've tried has removed them.

Pressing green removes it for me. Exit doesn't work on mine.

Yeah, sorry, I should have said that green works if 'exit' doesn't.

I would prefer them not to pop up in the first place - a shame there is nothing in the STB/IDTV set-up to allow this. It causes particular problems when archiving news titles for the Ark.

You could use a tv capture card on a PC or buy a cheapo (or a foreign one, as they would probably use a different format) box that isn't MHEG-5 compliant, and the red button won't appear.

What I don't understand is why, instead of these pop-ups, we can't have on-ident astons (ie. "Subtitles", "Stereo").
