The most important thing was that it didn't feel like a 25 minute bulletin - it absolutely flew along. That's what a TV programme is supposed to be like.

Yeah I do agree, but they had two major stories which took up a lot of air time...I doubt we will always get that. In all fairness though, the BBC will not be smuggling John Simpson into countries every bulletin.

While you want it to flow quickly, you want to feel you've had a good helping of the day's news...I did not feel that about News at Ten tonight.

I was also hoping for a quirky 'and finally' as well along with Julie doing her briefing at some touchscreen. Hey ho.

What a messy bulletin. Too many swipes to the logo, too much music punctuation, not a fan, hopefully in the coming weeks, they will settle down the bulletin and make it more streamlined and neat.

I get the feeling that you are looking at it in a vacuum as a news bulletin, forgetting that it is NEWS AT TEN, not just a news bulletin.

Sometimes it's nice doing something, not because it's the most efficient way to do it, but because people are comfortable with it. It's the way we do things in this country. We like tradition.

Well...

what can I say? Great pres, great programme.

I particularly liked the idea of a 'Special Assignment' - I know it's nothing new, but it's been executed magnificently.

Trevor and Julie were great presenters, and those titles ! Oh my Goodness... *removes Stephen Fry voice*

The music was wonderful, and the astons and graphics were superb. The journalistic quality was also very high, on par and maybe exceeding ITN's old standards. (BTW, we heard Bill Needy mentioning ITN's name during the Special Assignment - shock horror! Very Happy )

Is it just me or did the opening titles smack of the 1987 Blockbusters titles? Ignoring the fact that there's different music and there aren't hexes flying around everywhere, the feel of them was very similar.

And finally, I was also slightly amused by the Radio Times 's synopsis. I can't put it here as I don't have a copy immediately to hand, but it sounded like it was for a daytime soap opera.

WOW. The sting after the headlines, along with the sweep of the set - fantastic. The music sounded great and more powerful on TV, and the set looked even better, this blew the BBC's set/graphics/titles/music out of the water.

If anything, it's Michael Grade we should be thanking for bringing back News at Ten. Very Happy

I think on a stronger news day it will be really good.

Great execution but while they may harp on about video blogs and extra material, just a few minutes after the BBC's 10 has ended I can watch it on-demand from the website. No such showing for the NaT...

The fact the constant stings and sweeps to glass panel logos were off-putting, and irritating means I will not be in favour of it. Yes we know its News at Ten, we don't need reminding every 5mins. It seems a pres fan has gone wild in the gallery

"go to sting 1a, ok next VT, oh but first sting 4c, now roll vt, switch camera's and prepare for sting 2d" etc.

i thought that was a fantastic start, it actually felt like watching News at Ten again rather than just another news bulletin. Holding back material to 10pm really made it feel distinct from the old 10.30 and the competition. Let's hope they can keep up the standard. Presentation was superb.

Isn't that a good thing?

ITV1 running over 5 minutes late then, as usual after the news.

Why don't they give it the whole 22:00-22:40 slot, just like pre-1999?

They give it a 40 minute billing on Fridays - why not the other days?

Ridiculous that the 10.35 show should start so much later than billed.

Because even if it starts 5 minutes late, it's better to publish their post news shows starting at the same time as the BBC's rather than 5 minutes later.

OK, I might give pad a heart attack by saying this, but personally, and I stress PERSONALLY, based on tonight's show I preferred the 2001-2004 version.

Tonight's News at Ten only had about five minutes of news - the rest of the bulletin was determined by who they could get exclusive interviews with and where in the world they could send Bill Neely.

Now, over time I expect the balance will shift slightly, but the "ITV News at Ten", when on at ten, however dumbed down it may have been did give me everything I needed to know in 20 minutes or so, and I could even hang on an extra 10 minutes and know the latest local happenings too.

At the end of tonight's bulletin I don't really think I learnt anything about what was going on in the world today and how it might affect me.
