Am I the only one thinking that the BBC might react by putting there news back to The 9 O Clock News again?

I honestly don't think the BBC would move their bulletin to 9pm again. Although, I could be wrong! Laughing

Indeed. We never thought ITV would move their bulletin back to 10pm for a third time!

I don't think they would move it back either. 9pm is abit early these days for their flagship news programme. The schedule also leads in nicely to Newsnight on BBC Two for those who want more indepth reports

Some History - The only real reason for Nine O Clock was that it fitted in with the old BBC 1 Newsnight Equivalent Programmes

9.00 - Nine O'Clock News (no regional bulletin)
9.25 - Drama
10.15 - Entertainment
10.45 - 24 Hours.

Also worked with football highlights which became available at 10.

If ITV consistantly rakes in the ratings with the news then I for one don't think the BBC will have any alternative.

I would however hang ship as it wear but the BBC will understand that for at least the 1st week it might suffer badly. Although if it continues then I wouldnt be suprised, As for newsnight BBC might decide to put that on at 10?

edit: Just another thought with Neighbours heading over to Five shortly The BBC could always draw back there main bulltin to 5:30?

I'm really hoping tonight is a success. I have a good feeling about it, all the adverts have been great, its got massive publicity and thats one really good thing - ITV is showing that its really 100% behind News at Ten, not like any other time were its just being put on the schedule with Sir Trev behind the desk. I think many people will watch given Julie is also on the presenting team, many people like her from Sky.

Many viewers will not be familiar with Julie I would suggest, after all, Sky News isn't viewed by the masses unlike terrestrial news programmes.

If there is one lesson from the axing of News at Ten in 1999 - it is do not monkey about with the schedule when it comes to news.

The BBC will not make such a decision after this. There may be tweaks if ratings go south - but I would be amazed if they were hypocritical about time slots. I think if anything, we may see new features or even Huw and Fiona co present at the most.

News isn't everything - the 9pm slot is far more important to both channels, and only if the BBC constantly begin to lose at 9pm would they consider resurrecting the Nine o'clock News.

Silly having both bulletins on at the same time anyway.

Indeed, but maybe a point worth considering.
BBC will also be confident after giving ITV a real good hammering over the festive season
