The glass panel is very mid-nineties BBC News.

I like the way the arched clock face stays in the same position when the camera pans or changes angle, yet the London skyline moves with it. Very nice touch.

I never did watch the old or ITV News at Ten era but I am extemely looking forward to this ever since it was confirmed on that awards show on October 27th.

I think that large glass panel has ruined it already though. Also why does the clockface behind the desk fade out in the middle and fade back in at the bottom? The titles should 'land' on one of the 'permanant' glass screens instead.

Anyway looking forward to seeing Sir Trevor Mcdonald again. I hope the music is sorted out as the one in the promos seem to fast and to 'fake'. It will certainly light up my day (night) after my milk is now delivered in a horrible diesel milk float.

Do we think they have done lighter versions of the titles and backdrop to account for summer nights?

I would doubt it. They've never done so before, and it's such a short period of the year when it's daylight at 10pm, it probably wouldn't be worth the cost.

I take it the Lunchtime News was exactly the same?

Not sure if it was repeated on the Lunchtime, but the Morning News had a promo/interview thing with Trev and Julie Etchingham.

I wanted to throw a brick when Etchingham rattled out those media studies buzz words again - "appointment-to-view television" and "somewhere for viewers to touch base". For f***ks sake... is there anyone left who doesn't cringe at such b*llocks-speak? It's THE NEWS Julie - that's all it is to viewers - THE NEWS.

I remember she used the very same phrases on the promos for Sky News Tonight!

Indeed it was.

I really can't understand why ITV News hasn't had a rebrand.

Back in 2004 all news programmes were given a uniform look, this has been undone now.

I guess the consider NAT to be their flagship bulletin.

Maybe they're aiming for NAT to be ITV's answer to Newsnight then.

They want to return to the era when News at Ten stood out from the rest of itv News. For example the set which ended News at Ten in 1999 was completely different from the one used for the Morning News, Lunchtime News and Early Evening News, despite all of these programmes haveing a corporate look, News at Ten always resisted.

Now having said this i do think itv now need to think about what to do with the studio for the other bulletins as the fake walkway, is obviously computer generated and has no real purpose, why can they not just stand on a light blue floor for example.

Good luck to ITN on the revival of News at Ten. The return of the famous bongs is a stimulating, if scary one, for the BBC. But it's scary in a good way...

Does it matter that the walkway is fake when the entire atrium backdrop is as well?

I would also imagine that the vast majority of viewers haven't noticed any difference at all. In fact I doubt I would had I not read it on here.
