So from what we have already seen what are you guys expecting the opening sequence to run like? Something like this?:........

1) ITV1 Ident plays and announcer says something like "Now it's over to Sir Trevor McDonald and Julie Etchingham for the long-awaited return of the News at Ten."

2) We go strait into the 'Swoop into London' title sequence (of which we have seen a preview on ITV's site).

3) BONG and we cut from the clockface to the first HEADLINE and it's accompanying pictures. Do we reckon there will be any astons over the headlines? A headline bed beneath the bongs? A News at Ten logo in the left hand corner?

4) Now I reckon that after all the headlines we will cut immediately to the studio and a close up shot of that glass screen with 'News at Ten' on it. Then a pan out to reveal the desk and then cut to a two shot with Sir Trev and Julie.

But what do you think? Another short title sequence after the headlines? An announcer reading the presenter names? A post headline return back to the clockface and a further swoop to the ITN building?

I'm purely speculating but what are you expecting???? Very Happy

I hope the presenter names are announced within the bulletin itself, rather than by ITV1 continuity, like in the1990s..."Live from the ITN News Centre, this is News at Ten with...." or the 1980s BBC News style.

It won't happen though!! Smile

This is how I reckon it will work:

1) ITV1 continuity (around 9:59:30): Now on ITV1, we join Trevor McDonald and Julie Etchingham for tonight's News at Ten (or something along those lines; I doubt ITN or ITV News will be mentioned).
2) Titles, ending with the clockface and the logo keyed over it.
3) Headlines, with aston and bed.
4) Short sting, á la 1990s, with logo and wide shot of the studio.
5) Trevor and Julie say "welcome" with a double-headed shot of the desk.
6) Cut to Trevor/Julie to do the opening headline.

Either way, the pres looks excellent (barring the music). Now all we need is good journalistic quality; something we know ITN is capable of thanks to Channel 4 News .

Do we think ITV would dare start it a minute or two early to get a head start on the BBC?

I also wonder if there might be any reference to ITN in the opening (I doubt it), or even ITV News ("from ITV News, the News at Ten...")

Let's face it though, however classy they might make it look and sound, the second it finishes every night viewers will have to suffer those bloody Sheila's Wheels!

No ... what has been discussed though is that to get the BONG of Big Ben to actually BONG at Ten O'Clcok they need to start the title sequence about 30 seconds before ten. Otherwise the title sequence would show big ben chiming at 10.00.30 or there abouts.

Whether ITV will care about this I don't know! Wink

Why bong exactly at ten, they aren't going to play 10 bongs, are they? Confused

I expect the closing music will sound something along the lines of this:

Sir Trevor's Last 10:30 News

They played the original music on his last programme when he retired in 2005.

They also use the bongs on all other bulletins, none start on the hour.

Just seen the clip on ITV News, the set and graphics look fantastic, so much better than the pictures on here.

I don't like the way Geraint said ".. James Mates will be here with our Late News just after 11pm " I hope this doesn't mean it starts at odd times, such as 11:03 or 11:05 even. I can see regional news being shunted back to 11.40pm, because of extra adverts / Late News over-running.

Are we expecting Friday's 'Late News' to share 'News at Ten's look but with a different logo. I mean as it is night-time I would expect the dark London backing but will we have the 'fly-over' title sequence?

Another thing I find interesting is when I was at BBC News they said that they had to tone-down their 'city' backdrop soooo much because the regions were not happy with it looking like London! Laughing

I like the fact ITV have ignored all the 'London-centric' allegations and just gone for it! Looks better for it. London has great significance and authority for a news bulletin.

ITV News has always been so centered around Big Ben and London so it would probably defy all logic to have Big Ben and scenes of Manchester for example. The BBC aren't as attached to something like that ...

I hope the first bulletin isn't riddled with self-promotion, such as a lengthy introduction to 'News at Ten' with its history and so forth. I hope they just do the bulletin as if it were any other. It would seem slightly odd to me if they started the bulletin with the "ooh look at us we're back and look at our shiny new studio" routine and then move straight onto "Hundreds dead in Iraq" or something.

Also don't be too gimmicky with the "And Finally...." In other words say it, but don't shove it down our throats with a lengthy introduction to it.
