With reference to the CSO screen, I didn't actually know it was one until I read this forum a few months ago. I doubt many people will actually realise it isn't a real screen.

From what I've heard, new music has been composed and is still being tweaked as we speak. I gather than the other bulletins will remain the same as now, though the Friday late news will be in NAT's style.

Well that defeats the object of keeping the rest different doesn't it?

A great shame if there are no changes to other bulletins, which desperately need it - and remember the Evening News has been the channels most watched bulletin for the last nine years, even when News at Ten MKII was around.

This Late News thing really irritates me - as I said to begin with I think because of what happened from 2001-2004 ITV needed to show a five night a week commitment, and having "News at Ten" on at 11pm is making the same mistake they made back then.

If the bulletin on Friday is to be later, they need to make it clear it's because it's the weekend and switch from their weeknight branding to "ITV News".

I think they might be able to get away with having the Friday bulletin at 11pm so long as they are strict about Mon-Thurs. The bulletin must start at 10pm on the dot on those nights. If people know that every week they can expect the Mon-Thurs bulletins at 10pm and Friday's at 11pm then I don't think there's a problem. Last time, the problem was that NAT was delayed frequently and there was no pattern. People didn't know what time it was going to be on during any day of the week. That's how the whole 'News at When?' saga started. But if they stick to a regular pattern this time, I don't see a problem.

If it is true, it is a shame that the other bulletins are not changing. However, I'm glad that NAT is getting its own distinct look. That was another problem with the 2001-2004 era - everything looked the same. The new era will see NAT have a very separate brand from the rest of ITV News which can only be a good thing.

I hope that new theme is tweaked from the promos, because at the moment it has a slight 'Casio Keyboard' sound to it, especially at the end which i don't really like. Is it all Synthesised or have they actually recorded it with an orchestra? I suspect the former.

As I've already said, probably not that many outside of TV presentation fora.

I don't think much of the trailer being shown on ITV1. The comments about "News at a regular time" could apply equally to the current 10:30 slot (unless they are a snipe at the old "News at When" scenario - which I doubt).

Neither Trev or Jules said anything during their "chat" which promoted the programme as anything different. For all the hype in the press, ITV may have missed an opportunity here.

I have a horrible feeling this is just going to be "News at 10:30... but 30 mins earlier " , with a lick of virtual paint, a tweaked theme tune and a temporary geriatric presenter.

That is my main fear to. They need a real change to their journalistic style ... not just an old brand, old presenter and updated set.

Fingers crossed though! Very Happy

Completely agree - "You're in somebody's home at that time of night"...yes, and? So was the 10.30 news! So is the BBC Ten O'clock News! It's not very well written, and as you say, doesn't say they're doing anything different. It's trying too hard to ride this wave of hype around the News At Ten supposedly having a "special place" in peoples' affections. It may get a few more people to tune in out of nostalgia - and it's a good move bringing back a more orchestral theme - but people are not going to stick around simply for those reasons.

Generally speaking I do personally feel 11pm is better on a Friday, but just as I said due to recent history I'm not sure it's a wise edition.

My issue here is branding the later Friday bulletin in the same way as News at Ten - I think it highlights the fact the bulletin is on an hour late, while if they used the general "ITV News" branding they'd get away with it more. It should definately be packaged in as part of the "Weekend News" rather than "News at Ten".

The touch screen sounds awful. I thought they were cutting back on gimmicks.

According to the press release on itv.com the Friday bulletin will be branded differently:

Quote:
Friday’s bulletin, known as The Late News, will be broadcast at 11.00pm

But do you mean it will have the same graphics/studio/backdrop etc. as News at Ten?

What do they mean by 'clear screens'. I imagine that they mean that virtual sheets of glass with correspondents superimposed on them.
