Was it - I wouldn't notice really.

Anyhow, the backdrop looked fantastic - best the virtual set has ever looked - but I really think they need to change the desk to something more modern - I'm thinking glass, though that's probably not practical.

Snapped this when they were talking about the comeback on ITV Evening News (sorry if it's already been posted)

Certainly hope that's not the permanent background, it looks crap.

No - the view is from the north end of Waterloo Bridge (Lancaster House? - across from Somerset House).

But as I said on the previous page it's back to front.

Isn't Newsnight shorter on a Friday

Yes and no: on Fridays we have normal Newsnight for around half an hour, and then around half an hour to forty minutes of Newsnight Review .

Either way, that backdrop looks gorgeous. And - shock horror - Trevor and Julie were sat behind the desk ! Hurrah! Channel 5's influence can only extend so far.

Awful fisheye backdrop, it'll send my eyes funny! Flatten it out and it'll be a fantastic shot.

No expense on the desk then, shame they couldn't come up with something a little more distinctive.

Still, fingers crossed for a decent, unique title sequence.

I like it, at least they havent just kept the Atirum and put a different skyline, it looks nice - better than the background on the Ten O' Clock News anyway!

I think the idea is to make it look like it is inside Big Ben, however this is floored because they are making the clockface the main symbol, but from inside of Big Ben the clockface is going to be the wrong way round. So everything has to be in reverse.

If you listen when Trevor first talks, just after the bed, I'm sure you can hear the new music, it's like the same tune as the current bed, but more orchestral... am I hearing things?
