Incidentally does anyone know when (and indeed why) the "From ITN" part of the introduction was dropped?
2001 I think, just before News at Ten was bought back last time. I think it was the start of ITV's new contract with ITN and was about building up the "ITV News" brand.
I think it was 2001, but not before NAT returned. I have an old TV Room video clip of NAT (the 2001-2004 era, not pre-1999) and the announcer still says "From ITN..." at the start. The next clip I have is dated 2002 and by that point they have ditched it. So, it must have been at some point in 2001, but after NAT returned.

It was infact late January 2002, it was the same day the ITN News Channel had a mini-revamp, they altered the studio lighting to orange and blue and some of the graphics went the same way too.
I see that the late news is at 11pm next Friday and there's a new series in the 10pm slot, so it looks like that will be the new pattern.
Good to see the late news + regional news given a full 40 minutes billing in the schedule.
11.30 is a bit late for the Friday night regional bulletin though.
The news was also at 11pm on Thursday and Friday, last week. I was suprised they did a full 40mins each night. Considering it's next Wednesday (I think) ITV News bulletins return to normal.
I hope the regional bulletins are intergrated again into the national news, sometime in 2008. They never air at the scheduled time, it's because of the adverts that can't wait until after the local news.
I always thought that news programmes started bang on the scheduled time, but now I know they obviously don't!
I feel sorry for the regional presenter who has to do the late bulletin on Friday, a five minute bulletin, at 11.30
— Bong. Rumours reach me about the return of ITV’s News at Ten later this month. ITV’s “theatre of news” will be abandoned for a new set and a title sequence that the gossips claim is costing £250,000 (that would buy an awful lot of reporting). ITN’s aim is to “reclaim Big Ben”, the symbol of the old show. One mad plan, one hopes abandoned, is to locate the bulletin “within” the clock tower itself, cogs and wheels clicking in the background.
— From the sound of it, however, ITV is not counting merely on the dubious authority of Trevor McDonald to restore the programme’s primacy. Yesterday, I could not help but compare the affable but inarticulate “News Knight” to Jeremy Thompson, whose Nelson Mandela: A Personal View aired on Sky News and showed the perspective a truly seasoned (ex-ITN) reporter can bring to the anchorman’s chair.
One of television's most iconic and enduring brands makes its much anticipated return to UK screens.
News at Ten will be presented by Sir Trevor McDonald, who makes a welcome return to ITV news. Julie Etchingham joins ITV1 from Sky News and will co-present News at Ten along with established ITV News anchor Mark Austin.
Sir Trevor McDonald said: “I am delighted to be back with the news in the 10 o’clock slot. I’m looking forward to the new programme immensely and to the challenge of returning News at Ten to its place in the nation’s affections.”
Julie Etchingham, who joins ITV from Sky News, said: "I'm delighted to be joining News at Ten. It's an iconic programme with an extraordinary history, and a genuine place in people's affections. It will be an honour to work with Sir Trevor, and to be part of its comeback as a fresh, new programme."
Mark Austin said: "News at Ten was part of my life for many years when I was a foreign correspondent and it's great that it's back where it belongs in the schedule. I look forward to being part of its return. "
10.00 until 10.35, exactley the same as BBC News then? I really hope it pays off for ITV, if they get publicising it now and people know, they will watch it. I know many people like Julie so that may be a big ratings winner.
