Having lost out in the RTS Journalism awards, News at Ten is now up against Channel 4 News and Sky News in this year's BAFTA television awards for their coverage of the Chinese earthquake (its first BAFTA nomination since 1996). Oddly there's no nomination for BBC News this year.
The Guardian says that the second Friday bulletin last week got just 1.9m, compared to 4.5m for the BBC News at 10 O'Clock, whereas (for example) last Monday got 3m in comparison to 5.1m for the BBC. I'm sure the poor offerings from ITV1 in the 9pm hour on Friday nights doesn't do much to boost viewing figures, I wonder whether it'll see any increase in ratings when the likes of Benidorm return to the schedules in a few months.

One question that's always confused me. Why whenever Alastair presents a bulletin does he sit on the right?
His right or our right?
In the good old days of News at Ten in the 80's and 90's when Alistair used to be the "lead" anchor within a certain bulletin, he would always lead from the left (as we viewers see it). The co-anchor on the right (his left) was usually Julia Somerville, Fiona Armstrong or the much missed Carol Barnes.

Good to see Alastair on News At Ten. He looks at home there.

Well, it is nice to see News At Ten is getting stronger in foreign news and in ratings. I am positive that when Trevor McDonald - nice to see him up for a TV award, I must add - was then and when it was building up its strong-ness it was getting 2 million-ish viewers.
I would also like to add my surprise at seeing Alastair Stewart back where he should have been when Alastair Burnet left. It was a nice hark-back to News At Ten of old, what with Alastair mentioning reporters Penny Marshall and Bill Neely.

You've got to admire the ITV News PR department for getting that published, even if it is only on-line. Though Julie is better away from the studio, the basis for these particular reports sounds so excruciatingly dull and likely to convey nothing but emotion that if I were a regular viewer of the News at Ten I would make an exception on those nights.
