Interesting they used that ident as I thought the Granada regions were using their hearts idents by then?
The GMG hearts launched in November 1999 iirc.

Sounds about right. The clip though was from the era when a single generic announcement from Leeds accompanied the various regions' idents across the North. I've got a VHS somewhere of that same junction, with the same announcement, but with the rotating gold Yorkshire TV chevron ident.

From a nostalgic (or saddo depending on how you view it) point of view, it could have been quite fitting to mark the 10 years by starting Friday's News at Ten tonight instead of next week.

According to an online TV Guide next week Julie will be working every day with James on Thursday And Friday. Mark will be on Mon-Wed. ThisIs unlikely but is is an online source so who knows? As for 2 weeks ahead no info yet.

Channel Hopping on Monday night and ended up watching News at 10. Very good coverage of the events in Northern Ireland with Julie anchoring live from the scene of the first shooting. Sky havent had any presenters over there, and from what Ive seen, not the BBC either.
The same also happenned last night. Not ITV you expect to be leading the way when it comes to the news

No, that was just Carlton and Central. Westcountry used their "big W" idents all the way until the 1999 Carlton Star idents came on stream in September of that year.

I remember at the time Carlton were using the rather plain graphics package where the "T" in Carlton (or Central and presumably Westcountry) became the "t" in "itv".

ITV are always good on location, but you would have thought they'd have sent Mark so he could be there for both the Evening News and News at Ten rather than Julie. I guess it does show though that whatever the ratings, ITV News are putting the emphasis on News at Ten now.
