That's the first bit of good news for ITV News in a long time. The right decision too - Pushing Daisies has only been getting around 1.3m in the slot, so News at Ten should even on a bad day double that.

It will of course mean more "guest presenters" too as no self-respecting news reader will work a five day week!

I take it Pushing Daisies will get pushed to 10.40pm?

I doubt Mark will be there on a Friday James seems to be pretty permanent in The Late News role, its rare that I've not heard he is presenting it on Friday's EN. He is also Mark's cover so I'd say its quite conclusive he will get the male job. Not so sure about a female host, although Julie might want to do five nights and they might let her, but most likely probably Katie as she hardly does a 5 day week anyway and is usually in on a Friday.

Wouldn't surprise me- only 9 episodes were made and there was no proper conclusion. I don't know how far along they are but they're nearing the end but as it doesn't have a proper end, if March 6th isn't the last one then they'll probably try and kill it to avoid complaints.

Quite ironic too that practically to the week it'll be ten years since News at Ten was axed the first time around.

Great news to hear that the programme will finally be put to five nights a week - and as others have said, it will slot in perfectly and avoids trying to fill an hour when a series running in that slot finishes. To be honest I'd prefer having comedy on Friday nights between 9 - 10pm followed by NaT, then a late-night informal chat show of some sort. Perhaps something like that Piers Morgan show could work in the post-NaT slot.

Here's an article from The Guardian which confirms it but doesn't add anything to what we already know.

I'd be happy for Katie to present it but she already works harder, presenting more half-hour bulletins than either Mary or Julie (usually eight to their four a piece).
I would expect Julie to be scheduled for all five days with Katie and Mary covering as required.

Though Katie is currently working five day weeks it will be interesting to see if that change becomes permanent, and whether Mary does the same.

I think the most likely thing to happen is either Mary or Julie will take a day off earlier in the week so one of them is in on Fridays - probably on a rotational basis rather than fixed.

If Julie does start doing News at Ten regularly on a Friday though I can imagine her beginning to cover the Evening News too - which actually wouldn't be a bad idea to expose her to a wider audience and perhaps encourage those who haven't so far to tune into News at Ten.

I assume Nina would be back so that ITV News can offer a full service once again. Nina would probably present the EN on one day while (on the same day) Mary presents NaT, this making way for Julie to present NaT on Friday by still having a 4 day week which is what she does now. Afterall Julie is the female face for NaT and hopefully Alistair might get a look into NaT when James is away and usually he present 3 bulletins in a whole day. (Lunchtime News, London Tonight, Late News)

I also don't see no reason to follow in the BBC's lead and extend Sunday's 10pm bulletin where it has had a consistent home for some time just by 10 minutes, and put News at Ten on there too. That also rates very well especially with a Dancing on Ice lead in so that will help strengthen the brand.

It's best ITV don't commit to a weekend bulletin as they need some flexibility for post-9pm programming (even though they have a clear run on Saturday nights and still stick the news in the middle of the film). Keeping it free also means the chances of News at Ten keeping it's five nights a week slot for longer increase too. I wouldn't take it as an absolute guarantee now the Friday bulletin will remain - I think they will probably keep it at 10pm where possible, but if the schedule benefited at points in the year from moving it to a later slot I don't think they would hesitate.
