I'm having a good little chuckle about people wondering how on earth ITN will fit rehearsals and set changes into the time between now and when NAT relaunches.

The 'rehearsals' will be trying out camera angles, balancing sound, getting graphics lined up etc and testing the gallery. Jobs that could be done in about a week. The set being built - let us remember, the BBC's TC7 set was built over a period of about 2 weeks, wasn't it?

Surely if they are going to have a new set, they will just do like they did in 2004 and build the new set in the what is now virtual studio, that is the 1999-2004 studio, and turn the 2004 - present studio back to the virtual, so that no set is out of action.

The other alternative is to set up the desk and catwalk into the virtual studio and hope for the best.

I still don't understand this idea of giving NAT a new set. I appreciate that they want to make an impact with this second resurrection, but if it's TOO DIFFERENT then it won't look like ITV News at all. That would be destroying the corporate image they have spent so long trying to build.

I admit that the current studio should go (CSO is a cheap "90s cable channel" trick compared to what the other broadcasters do with their newswalls etc).

Have a new set by all means; make it adaptable like BBC, Sky, AJI have done. But don't start fragmenting the set and presentation style between programmes to such an extent that people start to think ITV have changed to another provider for the 10pm bulletin.

I agree to some extent, though having a studio where it can be easily changed, even if just in lighting and position of desk would still be welcome, not too different, but something to add a different look and feel to the different programmes.

I love the idea of the RTL News set with the white lights, nice angled desk and a couple of screens.
Something like that, where they could present from many angles of the desk, but a bigger scale to include some sort of standing up/screen area. I'm just not a fan a seated presentation through the whole bulletin. Especially when you look how dull and boring sky have become when they do this.

I am not an admirer of uneccesary stand-up, but there are times when it works very well. It gives an idea of space and versatility.

No title sequence again at 05:30! All I can notice is the white logo on the strap (which appears to be rather high up for a 16:9 broadcast - even though the report video is in 4:3)

With News at Ten only being four days a week once again it's absolutely crucial IMO that once again they appoint a regular Weekend presenter - either James Mates or Nina Hossain would be the obvious choices.

Or Steve Scott as he seems to present often at weekends.

On the subject of Steve Scott, does anyone else think he needs to smile a bit more? He's rather severe at times and doesn't really give a proper smile at the end of programmes when, in my opinion, it is acceptable for a newsreader to smile.

I agree with what you say, but when he does smile he seems rather smug.

Steve Scott IS the weekend presenter. It's just he doesn't present every weekend due to his commitments with ITV West

Yes, you're right. Since Geraint Vincent stopped presenting (thank God!) I think Steve Scott is probably my least favourite ITV News presenter. I've much preferred Lucy Meacock on weekends recently. She's been a lot better than Steve.

I actually think Steve Scott is the bext presenter after Mark Austin. I much prefer him to James Mates/Alistair Stewart and definately to Geraint Vincent! And I think he smiles quite a lot..?!

Wasn't Andrea Catherwood the weekend presenter until she moved to politics. What will happen to her role within ITV News?
