On the contrary I thought it was nice to see Trevor reappear once again, justified really when you think of the size of the story. I guess he may do a second (and probably final) report for tomorrow's bulletin?
I thought that tonight's News at Ten was brilliant - I really felt informed of the day's events. A shame some still overlook the programme - when it's like this it's brilliant, and it often is.

They just can't let go can they, but in hindsight perhaps that would have been a better option - have Mark and Julie host from the start and have Trevor as a special correspondent or something popping up every few weeks with an exclusive interview or special report or something.

Whoops, almost forgot we had a News at Ten thread...
Well, like mentioned in the ITV News thread, an odd closing of the bulletin last night in which the desk and platform appeared to move to the left of the picture. There was also a minor mishap midway through the programme, during the 'coming up' sequence; Julie read the last story, then the picture cut to a 2-way at the desk instead of the postcom camera swoop - the sting played in the background. Julie began to say the next story and then heard the music playing - she stopped abruptly and there was then a sharp fade to the camera swoop. Managed to record it and will upload if anyone *desperately* wants to see it.
Over the last couple of weeks they've managed to get Laurence McGinty in the studio for NaT, either at the desk or using a modified version of the touch screen (modified in that it has been made ever so slightly bigger and appears as if it's at the opposite end of the studio). Not often that this bulletin has ever had studio guests on it but it's nice when he comes on and gives some analysis of a science/medical story.

Just in...
ITV has announced today that it is extending News at Ten to Friday nights from March 13th, giving the ITV News flagship programme a consistent home in the heart of the ITV1 schedule. Since the relaunch of News at Ten in January last year, the programme has been broadcast Monday until Thursday.
Speaking about the announcement, Michael Jermey, ITV Director of News, Current Affairs and Sport, said: "We’re delighted that News at Ten will now run five nights a week on ITV1. It’s a vote of confidence in the programme, which has performed well this year with strong journalism on all the major stories."
David Mannion, editor-in-chief, ITV News, added: "We are extremely pleased with the performance of News at Ten. The programme's journalism and production values are of a consistently high quality. We very much welcome the decision to extend it to five nights a week.”

is this when the first shake of the lines could happen? It would also seem that some of the programmes could be till after 10.30pm
saying that i think its a cost cutting measure because, ITV could just stick on a crap film at 10.40pm!

The 2 hour gap is a little much when there is nothing on so its definitely a good decision. It may also strengthen the 9pm comedy slot because there will only be one hour to fill and not 2, so they could save an extra hours worth until later in the year (if that makes any sense). I also don't see no reason to follow in the BBC's lead and extend Sunday's 10pm bulletin where it has had a consistent home for some time just by 10 minutes, and put News at Ten on there too. That also rates very well especially with a Dancing on Ice lead in so that will help strengthen the brand.
It will be interesting from a pres point of view to see whether Friday's News at Ten will be a Julie and Mark bulletin or if they'll have James along with one of the female weekend presenters.

I look forward to seeing News at Ten on a Friday - I don't usually see the Late News on a friday, but it will be great to see the programme back to how it used to be.
So in the next few weeks we might see Lucy Meacock present News at Ten with James.
Or even we might see Alastair present News at Ten, seen as though he has done some of the Late News.

I could see James Mates presenting solo, or with Julie. Perhaps Mary/Katie will co-present, as Nina might be back by then if she does return.
Edit: I wouldn't thought Lucy Meacock would present, as they only have senior presenters on News at Ten, bar Alastair Stewart - though he already does two programmes daily.
