I think it is common knowledge that Trevor would be back for a year or so, a familar face brought in so there would be a bit continuity with News At Ten.
Slightly OT, but has Trevor stopped presenting the introductions to Tonight?
Yes, he has. It was felt that it would be too much for him to record all those intros and closes as well as doing News at Ten. I laughed so hard at the "Tired Sir Trev" angle of that article. From what I've heard, he's far from doing a 40-hour week

I know he's nearly 70 now, but effectively he's only working Part Time, MOST not all Monday to Thursday nights, I'd imagine he turns in at ITN mid-afternoon and then goes home pretty much straight after NaT ends, hardly exhausting...
What's the big deal with this article, we all knew he was going to leave around this time anyway. Still really wish one of the other male newscasters at ITN (James, Bill... etc) would replace Trevor rather than Mark.
Mark is the best choice IMO and should have got it in the first place - and hopefully him and Julie can make some sort of dent into the BBC's audience.
I do think though for it to work he needs to leave the Evening News, which I'd have Mary host alone instead. Actually, the whole of "ITV News" now needs a revamp - it's seriously dated compared to News at Ten.
I expect though that if ratings don't improve in the few months after Trevor goes we'll be right back to "News at When" again.

To be honest I think they could do with putting the late bulletin back to 10.30pm or 11pm across the week, and use the 10pm slot for imports, or try a daily late chat show in that slot.
News at Ten doesn't have the emphasis it once did, I think its best just to give the idea up and move on. Times change, so do audiences. Theres nothing saying it couldn't be the same show but in a later slot. But I wish they would make the generic ITV studio better. Clearly they can do something pretty amazing, yet we're stuck with a studio that looks like it was designed using publisher.
However I don't think they should change the style of reporting used in the lunchtime and evening bulletins, especially the evening bulletin. It doesn't win award after award for no reason.

No. It's that kind of knee jerk reaction that got them in this mess to start with. Nothing works in a 30 minute slot at 10pm.
They need to be in this long term and demonstrate a commitment to the news, you don't change viewing habits overnight. The audience fluctuates based upon what precedes it, they need to do better at 9pm.
They would be better making it a 5 night a week commitment than moving it back to 10:30pm.

Indeed ITV said that, the 90 Minute Dramas just didn't work and didn't catch on, no single half an hour programme ever succeded at 10.00pm, it's more sensible to have the News on at 10.00pm and then let ITV show what they like after 10.40pm.
They'd be silly to axe News At Ten again, plus I really like the version we have now, it's a damn good alternative to the BBC News and probably the best bulletin that ITV has to offer.
The 30-minute programmes didn't work but generally speaking the 90-minute dramas got very good ratings of 6-7m - a couple more million than most drama series get now.
News At Ten is a whole lot better than those pointless 30 minute programmes ITV used to put on before News At 10.30. A vast improvement.
The one thing that narks me about NaT is their reducement of reporters actually in foreign countries. I know it is not ITN's fault because it costs money - why can't ITV put more money into ITN to make a good rival to the BBC? I know "ITV is losing money" but surely if they put more money into a successful brand, usually that's the case.
Anyway, this may seem that I am an ITN-obsessive but I am not, but can't the BBC think of their own news titles: "News At One, News At Ten"??
One final rant, certainly in my region, straight after the ITV News there is an annoying Topps Tiles advert. I must admit that I watch ITV more regularly than any other news broadcaster, but every time I have watched it in the last six months, it has been on. I have not watched every single bulletin going but it annoys me very much. Anyone else have it in their region and bored to death with it?

I do agree it's a bit silly for the BBC to call their programmes that - they've always traditionally been called (and probably will always be known as) "One O'Clock News", "Six O'Clock News", etc... if the recent rebrand was all about strengthening the 'BBC News' name, why not refer to it as that, full stop? Or alternatively, the long-winded "BBC News at One O'Clock"...
The Topps Tiles ad stems from when the sponsorship of the national weather was changed from PowerGen/E-ON to eSure (or Sheila's Wheels); as I understand it, Topps Tiles made a bid for the sponsorship but narrowly missed out, so ITV offered them the after-the-weather slot (it disappeared around August this year but has seemingly returned).
