Well that was a very odd opening sequence indeed; instead of the usual camera swoop from the glass panel to the left side of the desk after the headlines, we got just the mandatory two-presenter shot, though the post-headline sting still played in the background. The same two-presenter view remained after the music stopped playing - cue Trevor not knowing whether to look at the centre camera or the camera to his left....

I think someone just pressed the wrong button. They were looking down as though the opening swoop should be happening.

No, they pre-record the opening swoop. They forgot to play that piece of VT, presumably - what I was commenting on was instead of a side shot on Trevor (which is the norm for the opening story) we got a two-presenter view (hence Trevor's puzzled expression and his eyes darting from left to right).

I know but they usually keep their heads down anyway for continuity with the opening story.

Might be wrong, but it looked like there were some vision mixing / gallery problems early in the bulletin - the opening problems and then the report on the by-election started with the oov shots from the Chelsea shooting for several seconds.

Not so much a cock-up, but tonight Trevor said something like "we have an ITN News reporter in Burma...", instead of "ITV News". Also noticed that instead of a VT of the first report in part two on one of the CGI screens, we got the NaT logo back instead. Quite a shame as I felt it worked having a video playing in the "glass panel".

At the end of tonight's Trev mentioned a goodnight from everyone here at ITN, which is a nice touch as they rarely say it these days.

Wonder why there's been two references to ITN from Trevor - I wonder if he's about to bow out from News at Ten (presumably for the final time!) and is trying to get in all the "ITNs" he can, wherever possible.... Laughing

I dont think he will leave until his contract runs all this talk of news at ten being axed . It's getting better ratings than the news at ten thirty.

???

I'm not saying NaT will be axed. I'm referring to how long Trevor is staying. Afterall he was only brought back to 'oversee', as it were, this third incarnation of the programme. Not sure when he's going though.

Supposedly is to be started phased out about a year into News at Ten's run (so in about 6 months time) then within another year he'll be completely gone.
