I agree with all of those points. Especially considering I posted identical views a couple of posts above yours.
Yes they are the first studio guests this year on the programme. I certainly don't recall the old News at Ten ever having studio guests. It remember it was a rare occurence for there to be a studio guest during the revamped '90s NAT anyways.

I think the main problems are that ITV really needs a strong lead into NaT, then it does well, they also don't need a 10.00pm ad-break otherwise people will hop over. As for last night the problem is that the game was over by about 9.40pm and that is probably when most people turn off, turn over or go home depending on how they watched the game.
I doubt News At Ten will be axed, it does OK for it's slot, it's getting more viewers than what News At 10:30 was getting last year, so ie there are more people watching the later Evening News now. Just give it time to develop and I'm sure it'll build a steady audience. I think it maybe worth waiting until I'm a Celebrity comes back on, that often has strong ratings and it will probably get people watching until the end, I'm sure ITV would cash in on that. Rememeber a few years ago when ITV had about three episodes of Coronation Street and I'm a Celebrity on in one night, the ratings were good, the News at 10:30 ratings benefited because of this. Just wait and see....
Another thing I would like to add is that it just makes Commercial sense to have News At Ten, the 10:00-10:30 slot was often hard to fill and nothing was built in that slot and it was a big pain for the schedulers, where as having the News At 10:00 and then the rest of the programmes after 10:40 makes more sense commerically.

But surely the ad break going into NaT has the larger audience - so they need to put it there to actually make some money by selling ads that people watch. Delaying it until the middle or the end of NaT will lose them even more money at the moment - as the audience will presumably still drop.
Ads are still what fund ITV after all (particularly now they can't make anywhere near as much money from phone lines)

Let's just hope they booked a babysitter.
Anyone else laughed at that joke? I sure did.
[I meant that in a non-McCann-bashing way].
Personally, ITV's News At Ten is brilliant. I admit I do deliberately switch to ITV and after the regional news, I go to bed ready for my pre-dawn work shift. Sends me to bed happy.

I assume the version of News at Ten currently on the Scottish, Grampian and Border Scotland regions (it started at 10.45) is live, and not a recording of the one shown at 10.00 on the rest of the ITV network.

Nope, the usual message albiet rushed, although they reported on the Rangers game, left the VT to play and then Trevor announced Rangers won on penalites.
Better than just a repeat I suppose, ISTR the same thing happened on BBC Scotland a while ago on a Sunday and they did the whole National News again with Darren Jordon announcing now Reporting Scotland.

We just had a full length report on the Rangers game, Trevor saying something like "You've probably just watched Rangers get through...".
Also, just at the end, there was no mention that the "news where you are" was next, or the weather forecast. Did this happen on the earlier broadcast?

What would happen though if STV were running just 15 minutes behind or something - they'd have no choice then but to run a delayed version as Trev and Julie would be doing the original broadcast.
And I bet if it was the other way round with "ITV" delayed but STV on time then STV would have to wait until ITV were ready for the news.
Very rare though for this to happen, especially with ITV, though I do recall Wales having their own bulletin a few years ago during the Rugby World Cup I think.
