When it used to be the other way around with Mark doing both and Mary just the Evening News.
I do agree that Mary has been excellent on News at Ten this week, I hope she presents News at Ten often in the future.

Mark & Mary on Tonight.
Although Mark gets the evening news off, but Mary does both!

She's obviously the first choice replacement then for News at Ten. I know when the 10.30 launched back in 2004 Mary was included as part of the presenter rosta, but I can't say I ever recall her hosting an edition. I'm sure she's bound to have done one or two, but she certainly wasn't a regular stand in.
And funny how far apart they appear on News at Ten compared too the general bulletins. BTW, when she hosted with James and led the bulletin did she sit on the left or the right?
I am glad though it appears when Mark is doing News at Ten he's not doing the Evening News - hopefully that will remain the case when Trevor does go. I wouldn't want Mary to move as well - I'd let her go solo on the Evening News and keep Julie on News at Ten.

I recall Mary doing the News at 10.30 occasionally. But it was mainly James who did it when Mark wasnt there.
I thought Katie Derham was the stand in for Julie on News At Ten as she did it a few weeks ago when Julie wasnt there. However I guess it makes sense for Mary to be the main stand in as Katie does the lunchtime news and ITV London news bulletins including London Tonight, so it would be a long shift to do News at Ten also.

The right.
I agree with the comments about Mary on News at Ten. She is well suited to the programme IMO... I haven't been very critical of Trevor but I have to say I much prefer Mark over him. It's just a bit cringeworthy when you see Sir Trev looking at the wrong camera and Julie looking at him as if to say, "it's that one!"

Yeah, it doesn't feel right at all, does it? They should either keep Trevor and bring back Julia Somerville (or someone of equivalent age: Moira Stuart, Anna Ford?) or get rid of him, keep Julie and put Mark on NAT. The age difference is just too much as it stands. Strangely, the age difference between Nicholas Owen / Alastair Stewart and Katie Derham / Nina Hossain did not stand out as much. Obviously, Trevor is much older than those two but I think it's partly his age combined with his lack of skill (amazing that he's never improved after 20 years of live telly!) that makes NAT feel a bit awkward at the moment.

The whole age difference is odd too. It's like a school girl presenting the news with her grandfather.
