News at Ten - Weeknights on ITV1

I think Mary will pull it off. I think Mary & Mark should take on News at Ten, with Julie/Nina with James/Geraint on the Evening News. As the main lady, Mary should present the main bulletin and I think shes a much better presenter than Julie and suits the more serious style.

Mary taking the lead tonight, with James as her sidekick. She seems far more suited to this programme than Julie. I shudder at the thought of Mary presenting the news on a pink sofa at Five!

Mary is doing brilliantly. I don't mind Julie but Mary is far much more suited to this, and Julie seems more comfortable when presenting in the ITV style.

Because reading the news on News at Ten is so different from reading the ITV Evening News

You say that, but there was something different about her presentation on the News At Ten, and I liked it, don't ask me what it was though.

i do like the 'i think Mary can pull if off' style comments though, as if she's somebody on work experience rather than a broadcaster with years of experience.

To be fair though Luke, Trevor has decades of experience and he doesn't manage to pull it off.

What on earth is happening with mark austin. His appearances on the evening news have been thin on the ground for months!! Also the late news seems to have died a death and ITV have gone back to the main studio.

Her presentation style was very different and as for the work experience comments I never meant it in that way. I meant that Mary is more authoritative than Julie is and News at Ten requires that sort of gravitas than the slightly more relaxed mood displayed on the main ITV News.

If you want it more authoritative surely only a leather-clad Katie Derham would be suitable for the role!

I didn't see the News at Ten yesterday but Mary did a good job on Monday, as you'd expect.
I don't think Julie is necessarily any less authoritative, just that she still doesn't seem to be completely at home there.

For me the main difference between reading the News at Ten and the other, earlier bulletins is that on the NaT the stories appear to have been decided well in advance of when they go to air so I get the impression that everything has been rehearsed several times. (Too many times, in my opinion, as it makes the items feel a little stale).
