Spot on. Mr. Boulton, I do have intelligence. Sadly, you seem to be jumping to conclusions before you have the facts. The titles were made by an outside company and with the ongoing downsizing at ITN (remember the job cuts over recent years?) they can't justify splashing more money on titles just to get the clock hands to move. Let's face it, aside from us lot, who exactly would a) notice and b) be bothered by that?

Well obviously enough people for it to be ditched within a month.

Don't try and guess why they changed - I doubt it was because a clock's missing from the titles.

I agree completely... Martyn Lewis was always a great newsreader. It's a shame all the youngsters are getting the jobs these days.

Martyn Lewis used to be so sincere watching him on the One O'Clock News as a kid used to scare me (but each to their own!). Then of course he moved on to daily quiz shows and that late night spoof news programme which I can't remember the name of.

I'd class Alastair Stewart in the same league as Lewis and would go to say he's the only remaining old school newsreader on ITV thats any *good* shall we say. Yes I like Trevor but to be honest, I agree there was no point bringing him out of retirement.

Just to see if it would work, i thought i'd mock up a 'The Late News' title sequence with the original render of the NaT CGI titles.

Now i realise it's not great and the colour is slightly off, but that took me 20 minutes. Surely if an amateur like myself can create that in 20 minutes, surely a pro could do it relatively cheaply?

And yes that was captured and edited in full TV quality. I reckon i could make that perfect if i just fixed the beginning bit and colour corrected the edited clock.

I think you've proven the point there - it could be done if they're willing.

Who's being presumptuous now? I agree though regardless of the clock, it makes more sense to have the late Friday edition tied with the ITV News brand, rather than News at Ten.

I'm not assuming - it's fact that the reason it wasn't changed was because it would have cost thousands to change.

I don't think it would have cost them that much extra for the titles to be duplicated with a minor tweak at the end. But I think its right that The Late News follows the ITV Weekend brand because if ITV want their Friday night schedule to say "its the weekend", then News at Ten at Eleven shouldn't interrupt that flow.

Shouldn't they then try to bring back the programme names somehow, so that they can brand friday, saturday and sunday as the weekend news.

Maybe even change the studio somehow, not sure how. But maybe they should look at it.

Maybe the obvious way would be like the TVE news and colour code them. But it wouldn't work with the company already using colour coding for the channels.

As I said, it's true that it would have cost thousands, I am not just stabbing in the dark here.

Different shades of blue maybe? The blues they currently use to stay for the Lunchtime and Evening bulletins, and maybe return to teal like this for weekends?

It looks so much better without the horrific clock face.

I actually prefered the teal. It wasn't that teal, more a teal hint, rather than too much blue in my opinion. The only thing I never liked was the teal walkway, that should have stayed white in my opinion.

I preferred the teal too - but the whole package of ITV News needs overhauling now, especially as they've done a pretty good job with the look of News at Ten, outlining how dated the rest of the package is.

Not quite sure what they could use as a backdrop instead of the atrium or skyline, but getting rid of that fake walkway would be a start along with the desk. I think using a Big Ben clockface as the base of the desk would be best, and would be suitable for both News at Ten and the other bulletins.

As for the look - I'd start with those really nice News at Ten stings, but tweak the colours for the other bulletins. If they use the white ITV News logo as the main log, they can then give the rest of the bulletins their own look by simply tweaking the background colours for each - perhaps orange for lunchtime, purple for evening etc.
