Wasn't sure of the bright orange breaking news strap and they were a bit slow with it ... Sky News' website had it as early as 10. But I suppose they couldn't interrupt a major financial story for that.

Well the story broke about 9.45pm - and really IMO how news bulletins deal with breaking news in these events is generally much better - announce the info you have, move on and then prepare a report for later, especially when there isn't much detail about the event.

And I think it's fair to say it's not a story which warranted being put at the top of the bulletin at last minute - they probably put it in at about the right time.

Incidentally, I assume News at Ten's headline sequence is probably recorded like the other bulletins - can anyone confirm?

Who used to do the intros for News at Ten, because i seem to remember it being the same voice for years. It may have been the same recordings, but i believe he was still doing them way into the ITV News red and blue era.

I've always wondered who it was as well. I remember when they changed from red/blue to yellow/blue (2003), the same time they brought out the News At Nine bulletins for the Iraq war. The guy said something like "The ITV News At Nine. With Trevor McDonald. And John Suchet.".. you could tell they had just pieced together recordings they had - they could have easily brought him in to record a new introduction.

Fair enough that you don't have it as the main headline - it is the top story on IRN at 11 but that's more of a breaking news service, whereas News at 10 is a round-up of the day's news. However if you wait 15 minutes before telling people then it's not breaking news.

Or you're News 24, one or the other. Laughing

Well it was still Breaking News at 10.15 as the story was still breaking and new details were being uncovered, just because we knew about the story 26 minutes beforehand means nothing.

When Geraint Vincent was reporting on Amy Winehouse, he was dressed as though he was a barrister in a court, although without the wig.

As has been said, it is quite shocking to hear of Mr Ledger's death, and ITN were a bit slow on the uptake; although if it was the top story at the top of the hour I think it would have raised a few eyebrows, so it's perfectly understandable.

I didn't hear Trevor say 'And finally...' tonight either.

I can't remember the name, but he used to be an ITN reporter from the 50's and 60's. I'm sure it was someone like that.

This has probably been mentioned already but I feel the News at Ten is missing one thing - the guy at the beginning who announces the presenter's names.

Perhaps they'll introduce them when Trevor quits, but get Trevor to do the voiceovers.

I think they understandably put this item in NaT. They shuffled things around and no doubt abandonded the "..and finally" as a consequence.

I've watched NaT since it was re-born last week, I'm giving it a month to see how it goes though before probably returning to the Ten on BBC One. I would instinctively turn to BBC News 24 for any breaking news though.

They handled the Heath Ledger story quickly and efficiently though. After all, they had no other details and only moments to slot it into the running order.

Sad news though Confused

I don't think it was him... he did used to present overnight though IIRC

The only name I can find associated with ITN voiceovers is Richard Bath, former ITN newsreader and now presenter for Westcountry.

He's mentioned on TV Ark as the voice over in 1991 for the 8pm Gulf News Report. You'd assume he was doing the other voiceovers at the time, though I've no idea if he continued through to 2004.
