That won't be the first time that's happened. It's common when someone dies (hence David's comment).

The following article was linked by "swordsman" on page 68 of the Sky News presentation thread.

ITV executives have insisted that moving the evening news is only temporary, but journalists in the broadcaster's newsroom are not convinced that the bulletin will return permanently to the 10pm slot.

The newsroom are said to be pinning their hopes on Tom Bradby delivering a timely rebuff to ITV executives, as he is tipped to win the presenter of the year prize at the Royal Television Society's TV journalism awards , which take place on Wednesday, three days after the bulletin is shunted out of the 10pm slot. The newsreader is up against BBC anchors Emily Maitlis and Victoria Derbyshire.

The BBC's News at Ten is up for the daily news programme of the year award. An ITV News source said: "The channel claimed they would make the show as important to the ITV brand as Downton Abbey, but now they seem intent on pushing the news around.

"What is so baffling is that the programme is in good shape but now morale is low and people are wondering if the big name hires like Peston will want to stick around."

Just because its in The Telegraph doesn't make "a source" any more credible than one in The Sun

It's funny that there were only negative headlines about ITV News at Ten, always going on about how much it trails the BBC, now its moved from Ten, suddenly the papers are being positive about it.

Also last time I looked Peston wasn't exclusive to News at Ten, and ironically one of the most prestigious news programmes also airs at 10:30

I doubt Sky will make any significant in-roads into the BBC's audience, but it will be more interesting to see whether ITV's viewing figures increase on the back of this new entertainment show (depending on how successful it is)?

Monday night should certainly be interesting ...

Are we expecting any kind of change with the 10:30 bulletin in a way to grab viewers or do we expect the same News At Ten format but just called ITV News?

From that article:

When ITV moved the time of its flagship news bulletin from 10pm to 11pm in 1999 viewers dropped by 14%.

Wrong!

ITV moved the time of its flagship bulletin (the only half-hour national evening news bulletin on the network at the time) to 6:30 in 1999. The Nightly News, which was presented by Dermot Murnaghan, was 20 minutes long (slightly longer than the Early Evening News, which was on at 5:40 until 1999 and was followed by the ITV National Weather at 5:55).

Yes, and Trevor McDonald moved to 6.30 too. News at Ten was essentially renamed the Evening News and moved from 10 to 6.30 with the Nightly News being an entirely new bulletin. That said, it's probably easier to say it moved from 10 to 11 than try and explain all that in the article!

I wonder whether the 2230 news (during the next few weeks whilst that new chat show is running) will retain the conversational/emotive/opinionated "Bradby at Ten" style & tone, or revert to a traditional "straight bulletin" format?

If the former, will it retain the "Bradby" incarnation title sequence (but amended to read e.g. "News at 10:30" or similar)?

Or if the latter, it would presumably also revert to the standard "late bulletin" titles that are nowadays mainly relegated to weekend/bank holiday use.

I assume it'll be the exact same bulletin as before but simply branded ITV News.

At this stage, it is technically only temporarily moving to 10.30 for eight weeks, so I imagine it'll just be generic ITV News titles. If The Nightly Show is extended past its eight week run, perhaps they'll end up renaming it News at 10.30 or (as has been previously suggested) the Nightly News as a tie-in.
