It's always made me laugh that we're supposed to believe that newsreaders, who it's fair to say have a pretty decent understanding of what's going on in the world, are completely neutral on all matters, certainly politically. That's never going to be the case - but they have a job to do and will remain professional about it.
Although Tom's views were seemingly shoehorned into things to start with I don't think there has ever been anything there which explictly gives his view on a matter (certainly when it comes to politics anyway) and to a lesser extent Alastair and Mark have done the same over the years, just not so blatantly, whilst Jeremy Paxman's news career was based very much around his persona rather than the ability to read an autocue. News at Ten is after all going for the Newsnight territory now and I think it's quite difficult to have a news programme which analyses the news without some opinions being expressed by the host. Now there is a line I wouldn't want to see crossed but I don't think Tom has got anywhere near it yet.

Plenty of other places you can get it.
So? The existence of the BBC and others doesn't mean I can't lament the state of ITV News.

Err, was it? Which bit? The awkward staring off camera after James Mates had finished talking? Or the too-long shot of the White House (Whi' House, as Tom pronounces it) before the credits finally appeared?
That's exactly why I don't like Tom Bradby as a news anchor. I want news , not an op. ed. I don't want Tom shaking his head sadly and tutting - I'm perfectly capable of being depressed at the state of the world by myself. He comes across like a parent trying to teach their toddler why they shouldn't hit.
That said, it's been a while since I watched NAT, so I'm watching last night's now and he has improved a bit. I wish he'd stop sucking his teeth before he talks though. Still some work to be done on pronouncing those Ts and Ds, though, Tom.
Did he have to have a cheek mic, though? It sounded awful. He's either shouting or sounds like he is.
I hope Julie gets her eye looked at...
I meant the part with the full soundtrack, with a sweeping shot of the White House.
What I can't stand about news at ten at the moment is that Tom regularly does a horrible laugh at the end of most editions of the programme and it really isn't needed at all. Robert Peston is another thing, he is typically comedy gold, he & Allegra Stratton (well Allegra not that much) are too bbc in there style of on screen delivery, Susanna had it first on GMB for the first year or so, but now she has fitted in, hopefully something that will happen to Robert & Allegra. Noreena Hurtz is another issue I have, especially when she is in the studio most nights which isn't nessesary, when Richard Edgar was economics editor, you didn't see him every night, he was much better than his successor IMO. Rageh has definitely improved, Julie is great as always.
In saying that it would be nice to see Rageh reporting more often, it's been a while since he last did that.
Awesome ending to NaT tonight.

Tom must be knackered. Hosting from Washington every day for the past few days including last night and straight back from his flight into the studio in London tonight.
Rageh's in tomorrow so sounds like he's taking the rest of the week off.

Agreed.
I was surprised when he said on Monday night that he'd be presenting tonight's programme - given the jetlag that he must have had after coming back to Britain.

I thought that Noreena Hertz was quite informative in her explanation of the BT false accounting case this evening. Her academic experience is a great asset to ITV News.

Phew!
I don't recall News at Ten EVER playing in or out with anything other than The Awakening or a modified ITN-ized version of it.
I stand to be corrected by anyone who has better knowledge.
