News story sources are not his 'contacts'! It makes them sound like his Westminster chums!! These people are fighting a war against Islamic extremism, barbaric groups and even their own governing bodies! ITV's News at Ten should be presented, in my opinion (others may think otherwise), by an experienced and well respected newscaster, like Julie Etchingham or Mark Austin not a critic of a news story, like Tom Bradby.

"Contact - someone with whom one is in communication." (Wiktionary)

If anything, contact is more humanising than "source", not less. Tom Bradby has said far more supposedly controversial things as host of News at Ten - I don't see this as an issue at all.

I agree I don't think anything was meant in any dusresctful way and there have been special reports from Syria across the bulletins from an aid who has been showing what it is like there. This could be the contact Tom was referring to if not others too.

In this present day there may not just be reporters on location to give the news; there can be local people sending material to news agencies to show more factual as it happens material.

The remark by Robert Peston to Tom about a former prime minister's Salary compared to theirs which Tom laughed off was probably more controversial and as I say was laughed off.

News At Ten with Tom is different; I don't watch every night but is it really that bad?

I think it is ok. We will ever get the grand old days of presentation back like the seventies and eighties but it is good

Tom Bradby just introduced headline story, on News at Ten, with a line about his 'contacts' in the city of Aleppo, Syria. Is it really appropriate to refer to Syria's many victims in such a manner and can someone please explain why this inane man is still allowed to present ITN's and ITV's flagship nightly news programme, with all its history and precedence?

You gotta admit... he is funny.

It was usual to see entire swaths of weirdness disappear from TVForum. He says.. with uncrossed arms, because they're being used to type this... not on tonight's News at Ten.

Back on track, k thanks bye.

It would be laughable to continue calling the bulletin "News at Ten" for reporters on the bulletin to say "News at Ten" in their name-checks if the bulletin is moved to 10:30 for several weeks, at least, to make way for a nightly chat show.

I wonder will ITV go back to calling the late bulletin "ITV Nightly News".

It has aired well after 10pm in the past year and still been News at Ten, so I can't imagine the branding becoming an issue at this stage.

Once you take into account the programme's chequered recent history, it really isn't a huge deal. If it was scheduled for 11pm or later then perhaps you'd have a point. It's certainly not "laughable" as you suggested earlier.

Still think it was crossed wires in the media, especially as an ITV chat show would have a better chance of success versus whatever the BBC shows after the news rather than against the news itself.

I'd also have thought News at Ten has probably been scheduled more at 10pm this year than any other year since it returned in 2008.

The longest for time in which News at Ten has been broadcast later than usual is one week - to make way for a series featuring auditions for "Jesus Christ - Superstar".
