I'm not sure why they've made the football finish at 11:15pm. It could have easily finished at 11pm, and that would include a bit of analysis of the match. Now they're just filling time.
The same pre-match too - could just about understand a 45 minute build up for an England game but half an hour would be enough tonight. Got caught out with the Evening News airing 15 minutes earlier.

Indeed, I do feel a bit for the ITN journalists who will have been overloaded with news to report today. They deserve to get an audience to see the fruits of their hard work!
Towards the end of the football, it looked like Ian Wright was tapping the edge of the table bored.

You could have caught the Evening News at 7:15 on ITV+1 if you wished to do so. You can also watch reports on the ITV News website.

Overall, the main national bulletins on ITV get respectable numbers of viewers and it makes sense to be consistent in terms of the length of News at Ten, no matter how later than usual it is broadcast (the lateness happens only every two years).

You missed the point. I was agreeing with Ant about the start time, not the length of the programme. I wasn't suggesting it be shortened (especially in light of today's news).

I never said, explicitly or implicitly, that you suggested it be shortened.
The journalists are still achieving a lot by their work even though the audience figure for tonight's bulletin is, I guess, very low. I'm sure that there are many people who follow football and also watch the news. Furthermore, the reports can also be watched on the ITV News website - so the number of people who follow ITV News cannot be determined by the BARB ratings alone.
