What are they gonna do with BBC World's current studio?
What kind of emergency do you mean??

They're keeping it, but not in use. World is getting a brand new set, but in N24's space. I presume the emergency would be a fire or something.

I think this is greatfor BBC Wolrd, News 24 has a better Newsroom and a nicer set. They will have more space for other shows and won't use those ugly dark sets for WBR and WNT.

I prefer the World set TBH, I like the darker colours, though I know many don't.

If anything, I'd guess there would be more studios needed than envisaged in 2004. The Arabic and Farsi channels will presumably need their own space.

How exactly will this Arabic news channel be funded?

I think it's from the F.C.O.- as part of their funding of The World Service.

The Arabic and Farsi services will be on air from studios in W1 long before the new BH newsroom and studios are built. I don't think they are planning to move them into BH - as they are not part of BBC News but are part of BBC World Service (which may be in the same "BBC Journalism" umbrella but is financially very separate)

Yep they are getting their own sets.

Err - except that their studios (in which the sets go) are not part of the BH project are they? The Arabic and Farsi services will be on-air well before the building work on BH is close to completion - with Arabic launching pretty soon-ish.

Arabic and Farsi will be funded the same way that the BBC World Service (but NOT BBC World) is funded - by a direct finance from the Foreign Office. Nothing to do the with the licence fee - totally separate financial arrangements.

Effectively mothball it.

Well BBC World's current studio and gallery are technically in a different bit of the building to the current News 24 studio and gallery, and BBC One bulletin gallery (though the BBC One studio is technically in the same bit as BBC World...)

Also - studios need to be maintained now and again - and things do go wrong. Not having a 4th space would be putting lots and lots of eggs into three baskets - which with 4+ networks requiring shows at close to the same times would be difficult to cope with if you lost a studio.
